In Australia, wheats are classed as Selected-Hard, Hard, Soft, and Durum (Table 2.9). In addition they have all-purpose and feed wheats. These types are those lots that do not meet grade based on moisture ( 12%) and test weight (between 68 and 72 kg/hL for all purpose, and between 62 and 68 kg/hL for feed wheat). The Australians also classify special wheats for noodles because they have a strong export market to Asia. [Pg.61]

Australian Wheat Classification According to Properties and Gluten Functionality [Pg.62]

With protein levels between 13% and 14%, AWB prime hard is the top quality high protein milling wheat. Flour milled from AWB prime hard is used to produce Chinese-style yellow alkaline noodles and Japanese ramen noodles. It is suitable for the production of high-protein, high-volume breads. AWB prime hard can be blended with lower protein wheats to produce flour suitable for a wide range of baked products and noodles. [Pg.62]

AWB hard wheat is made up of specific hard-grained white wheat varieties selected for superior milling performance and excellent dough quality. It is segregated at a guaranteed minimum protein level of 11.5%. Suited to the production of a wide range of baked products including European-style pan and hearth breads, Middle Eastern flat breads, and Chinese steamed products such as mantou and pao, as well as Chinese-style yellow alkaline noodles. [Pg.62]

With a minimum protein level of 10%, AWB premium white is ideally suited for the production of a variety of Asian noodles, including Hokkien, instant, and fresh noodles. It is also suitable for Middle Eastern- and Indian-style breads, and Chinese steamed bread. [Pg.62]

Peptide chemistry in Australia benefited from the experience of E.O.P. Thompson gained in the laboratory of Sanger (Plate 26) in Cambridge, England, where the determined the sequence of the A-chain of insulin, but after returning to the University of New South Wales in Sidney. Thompson dedicated his efforts to the study of proteins rather than peptides. [Pg.228]

At Monash University in Melbourne, J.M. Swan, former coworker of du Vigneaud and known for his method of introducing glutamine residues through the incorporation of pyroglutamyl moieties, studied various impor- [Pg.228]

Only the northernmost pan of Australia (Cape York, Kimberley and the Arnhem Land peninsula) falls in the belt of equatorial monsoons. It is characterized by Tropical Rain Forest, Afforested Savanna and Light Forest ecosystems on Ferrasols and Nitosols, at places, lateritized soils. The sonthern fringe of the continent, its southwestern and sonlheastem parts, and also the island of Tasmania fall in the subtropical zone in the belt of westerly cyclonic cnrrents of air masses. They experience winter in the Sonthern Hemisphere. A dry snmmer and winter rains impart the characteristics of a Mediterranean snbtropical climate and determine the appearance of Dry Forest and Brnsh ecosystems on different Cambisols. [Pg.330]

This region influences the equatorial monsoon and almost the entire annual rainfall comes in four or five summer months. The Xerophitic Eucalyptus Eorest and Light Eorest are common for this area and they are replaced in less-drained positions by herbaceous associations. The typical soils are Ferrasols and Nitosols. The biogeochemical cycling is very intensive (see Table 2). [Pg.330]

More details in the description of soil geographical regions of the World can be found in Glazovskaya (1982), see Further Reading. [Pg.332]

2 Global Review on Construction Safety Measures 3.2.1 Australia [Pg.27]

Over the years, there have been many rail accidents in Australia. During the period 1857-2007, there were around 41 major railway accidents. Australia s first fatal accident occurred on June 25,1857, when a railway worker fell from a locomotive as it passed under a bridge [19,20]. [Pg.127]

The worst railway accident in Australia, with respect to fatalities, occurred on January 18, 1977, at Granville, New South Wales, when a packed peak-hour train derailed and crashed into a concrete bridge and caused 83 fatalities. The breakdowns of major railway accidents occurring during the period 1857-2007 in Australia are presented in Table 7.4 [19,20]. [Pg.127]

There is also a self-regulatory code of practice with supporting guidelines covering the promotion and advertising of prescription-only medicines, namely the Medicines Australia code of conduct. [Pg.18]

The main federal laws are 6360/76, 6437/77, 9294/96 and 8.078/90. The main Anvisa Resolutions and Ordinances on medicine advertising are Anvisa Ordinance 344/98 and Anvisa Resolution 102/00. [Pg.18]

The 2007 TGA fees payable for various applications are tabulated in Table 8.4. [Pg.269]

Extracts from the periwinkle are already in common use in modem medicine, for example, vincristine and vinblastine, in the treatmrait of leukemia. Egyptian studies have shown, furthermore, there is an effect on abdominal cancer too. Folklore says that Egyptian onions also are anticancer agents, and studies are under way. [Pg.249]

The plant or plants ealled Lobelia have a track record in the treatment of infectious diseases, including tetanus and blood poisoning. The Iroquois Indians used Lobelia syphilitica, as the scientific name implies, against venereal diseases, maybe even uterine cancer. In the Civil War the species Lobelia inflata was used variously as an enema and for snake, spider, and insect bites. [Pg.249]

The alkaloid lobeline (as derived from Lobelia inflata) bears a striking resem-blanee to nieotine, and both have similar chemical actions. This may extend to cancer treatment. Heinerman observes that the nineteenth century American herbalist [Pg.249]

Samuel Thomson praised the use of L. inflata and L. syphilitica for an array of diseases, including rabies, measles, and smallpox, and even for removing pimples and warts. He Usts other herbs to be used with lobelia, such as capsicum, ginger, bayberry, and sage, as well as goldenseal and comfrey, and peach tree bark and myyrh. Peppermint and spearmint may be added, and catnip too. [Pg.250]

Finally, if lobelia will not cure cancer, it may very well stop the spread of cancer, and it is safer than, say, radiation. [Pg.250]

ASC solution is registered for use at 50-150 mg sodium chlorite/l for whole carcass of poultry and at 500-1200 mg sodium chlorite/l for carcass parts of poultry, meats and formed meats (such as sausages, luncheon meats and pressed hams), fruit and vegetables (intact and cut up), freshwater fish and seafood. [Pg.39]

Crude oils appear as liquids of varying viscosities. Their color can range from green (crude from Moonie, Australia) to dark brown (crude from Ghawar, Saudi Arabia). They can have an odor of hydrogen sulfide, turpentine or simply hydrocarbon. [Pg.315]

The three sets of data chosen for the comparisons between experiment and simulation have been supplied by Dr. S. K. Burke of the DSTO Aeronautical and Maritime Research Laboratory (Melbourne, Australia). [Pg.142]

As with synchrotron x-rays, neutron diffraction facilities are available at only a few major research institutions. There are research reactors with diffraction facilities in many countries, but the major ones are in North America, Europe and Australia. The are fewer spallation sources, but there are major ones in the United States and the United Kingdom. [Pg.1378]

Most manganese today is obtained from ores found in Russia, Brazil, Australia, Republic of S. Africa, Gabon, and India. Pyrolusite and rhodochrosite are among the most common manganese minerals. The metal is obtained by reduction of the oxide with sodium, magnesium, aluminum, or by elctrolysis. [Pg.59]

Other deposits are found in New Caledonia, Australia, Cuba, Indonesia, and elsewhere. [Pg.67]

Discovered in 1803 by Wollaston, Palladium is found with platinum and other metals of the platinum group in placer deposits of Russia, South America, North America, Ethiopia, and Australia. It is also found associated with the nickel-copper deposits of South Africa and Ontario. Palladium s separation from the platinum metals depends upon the type of ore in which it is found. [Pg.112]

Tantalum ores are found in Australia, Brazil, Mozambique, Thailand, Portugal, Nigeria, Zaire, and Canada. [Pg.132]

Originally, radium was obtained from the rich pitchblende ore found in Joachimsthal, Bohemia. The carnotite sands of Colorado furnish some radium, but richer ores are found in the Republic of Zaire and the Great Lake region of Canada. Radium is present in all uranium minerals, and could be extracted, if desired, from the extensive wastes of uranium processing. Large uranium deposits are located in Ontario, New Mexico, Utah, Australia, and elsewhere. [Pg.155]

The importance of this work, which was begun by Dr. J. M. Swan of Monash University, Melbourne. Australia, was very quickly recognized. [Pg.599]

Sur cia.1 Deposits. Uraniferous surficial deposits maybe broadly defined as uraniferous sediments, usually of Tertiary to recent age which have not been subjected to deep burial and may or may not have been calcified to some degree. The uranium deposits associated with calcrete, which occur in Australia, Namibia, and Somaha in semiarid areas where water movement is chiefly subterranean, are included in this type. Additional environments for uranium deposition include peat and bog, karst caverns, as well as pedogenic and stmctural fills (15). [Pg.185]
