Remote Field Eddy Current Inspection, A selective NTIAC Bibliography. Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio, Texas. [Pg.325]

During many years in Scientific Research Institutes of Nuclear Physics and Introscopy at Tomsk Polytechnical University (TPU) researches into induction electron accelerators and their uses for non-destructive radiation quality control of materials and articles have been conducted. Control sensitivity and efficiency detection experimental researches have been conducted with the high-current stereo-betatron modifications [1], and KBC-25 M and BC-50 high-current betatrons [2,3] in range of 11 MeV and 25-50 MeV radiation energy. [Pg.513]

The techniques of quantitative computer tomography are realized in tomographic units constructed of RF Technical Physics and Automation Research Institute, Moscow, for the control of objects of atomic engineering and airspace technics constructed of RF Technical Physics and Automation Research Institute, Moscow. [Pg.599]

RF Technical Physics and Automation Research Institute is ready to production and supply computer industrial tomograph, scanning devices, measuring units, soft-hardware interfaces connecting the measuring units with computer and the adapted program complexes for the industrial tomography. [Pg.601]

The other type of x-ray source is an electron syncluotron, which produces an extremely intense, highly polarized and, in the direction perpendicular to the plane of polarization, highly collimated beam. The energy spectrum is continuous up to a maximum that depends on the energy of the accelerated electrons, so that x-rays for diffraction experiments must either be reflected from a monochromator crystal or used in the Laue mode. Whereas diffraction instruments using vacuum tubes as the source are available in many institutions worldwide, there are syncluotron x-ray facilities only in a few major research institutions. There are syncluotron facilities in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Genuany and Japan. [Pg.1378]

As with synchrotron x-rays, neutron diffraction facilities are available at only a few major research institutions. There are research reactors with diffraction facilities in many countries, but the major ones are in North America, Europe and Australia. The are fewer spallation sources, but there are major ones in the United States and the United Kingdom. [Pg.1378]

In 1964 Douglas Cart Engelbart (Stanford Research Institute in California) developed the mouse as an input device and Bill Enghsh built its prototype from a carved block of wood with a single red button. Shortly thereafter, the mouse was used at the Lister Hill Center of the National Institutes of Health for the input of chemical structures. [Pg.44]

In 1964, workers at the Joint Nuclear Research Institute at Dubna (U.S.S.R.) bombarded plutonium with accelerated 113 to 115 MeV neon ions. By measuring fission tracks in a special glass with a microscope, they detected an isotope that decays by spontaneous fission. They suggested that this isotope, which had a half-life of 0.3 +/- 0.1 s might be 260-104, produced by the following reaction 242Pu + 22Ne —> 104 +4n. [Pg.158]

I may have some talent for coping with administrative duties and dealing with people, but it never affected me in the ways I have sometimes observed it did others. When in my early years in Hungary I was helping to start a small research institute of the Academy of Sciences,... [Pg.86]

I considered my role mainly to try to help my colleagnes while jealonsly safegnarding most of my time for research and scholarship. I proceeded in the same way in Cleveland and later in Los Angeles, when starting the Hydrocarbon Research Institute at USC. 1 have been fortunate never to have been bitten by the bug that makes many people feel important by exercising administrative power. ... [Pg.87]

In the fall of 1976 I had a call from a friend, Sid Benson, who, after a decade at the Stanford Research Institute, just returned to the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. He invited me for a visit, telling me about USC s plans to build up seleeted programs, ineluding chemistry. I visited USC and found it, with its close to downtown urban campus, quite different from the sprawling expanse of the eross-town eampus of UCLA, whieh I had visited on a number of oe-... [Pg.109]

The facilities for experimental work were poor, with inadequate wet laboratory space. In our discussions, I mentioned to Kaprielian my interest in significantly extending my previous work into the area of hydrocarbon chemistry. I felt that by establishing a strong program of basic research and graduate education in hydrocarbon chemistry, USC could become a leader in this important field. Because the memory of the first Arab oil embargo was still fresh, this struck a chord with Kaprielian, who felt that he could sell my research interest to the trustees and establish a Hydrocarbon Research Institute at USC that could accommodate me, as well as other chemistry faculty members whose interests could fit into its framework. [Pg.111]

The Lokers had no background or business interest in ehemistry. It was Carl Franklin who told them abont USC s effort to establish a hydrocarbon research institute, and he must have also told them some-... [Pg.115]

Physical facilities help, but do not per se make a research institute. It is the people who work there and their contributions and devoted hard work that is most important. We are nearing a quarter of a century since the Hydrocarbon Research Institute was started at USC. At the beginning in 1977, Sid Benson and I shared the scientific directorship of the Institute and Jerry Segal carried out the administrative responsibilities as executive director. When we moved into our own building in 1979, Bill Stephenson, a physical-organic chemist and a former colleague of mine in Cleveland who subsequently joined us at... [Pg.120]
