The University of Queensland in Australia conducts general R D to support MCFC systems as part of a project to develop advanced system integration techniques and catalysts for internal reforming fuels cells. The aim is to enable a wide range of fuels to be used with MCFCs for small scale stationary applications suitable for remote areas in Australia.

We obtained a data set containing the spectra of three different cultivars of the same fruit (cantaloupe, Cucumis melo L. cantalupensis) from Colin Greensill (Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems, Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Australia). The cultivars (named D, M, and HA) had sizes 490, 106, and 500, and all spectra were measured in 256 wavelengths. The data set thus contains 1096 observations and 256 variables.
