It is still unclear what kind of radiation sources can lead to asymmetric reactions. Jeremy Bailey from the Anglo-Australian Observatory in Epping, Australia, investigated which astronomical objects could be considered radiation sources (Bailey et al., 1998 Bailey, 2001). It was possible in laboratory experiments to generate a small enantiomeric excess of some amino acids by using circularly polarized UV light (Norden, 1977). This asymmetric photolysis involves photochemical decomposition of both d- and L- enantiomers, but at different rates, so the more stable form tends to survive. This process must be subject to autocatalytic multiplication. [Pg.251]

Abstract Mobile Au in soil has been postulated for many years. It has been used by the mineral exploration industry in areas of transported overburden as a vector towards buried deposits. Until now, the nature of this mobile Au has not been known or investigated. Soil samples from a colluvial area above the Bounty Deposit (Yilgarn Craton, Western Australia) investigated by analytical techniques including laser ablation inductively coupled mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and synchrotron x-ray fluorescence (SXRF) combined with X-ray absorption spectrometry (XAS) have allowed us to map the invisible Au in these soils and suggests that at least some of it occurs in an ionic form. [Pg.67]

On the supposition (not necessarily correct) that every bomb contains a detonator, and that most detonators are electric blasting caps (also incorrect, at least in the US), the Materials Research Laboratories of Australia investigated the inclusion of metal strips, bands or pellets as identification tags for electric blasting caps (Ref... [Pg.506]

Specific IgE Assay. Two radioimmunoassays are available in France using a quaternary ammonium compoimd coupled to Sepharose [30, 31]. The sensitivity of these tests was equivalent at 88%, the specificity reaches 90%. A morphine-based immunoassay has been proposed in Australia [14]. More recently, Ebo et al. [32] investigated a rocuronium ImmimoCAP and set the sensitivity at 85%, the specificity being absolute, provided an assay-specific decision threshold is applied. An ImmimoCAP (Phadia A) is available. [Pg.187]

Kohei Uosaki received his B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees from Osaka University and his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from flinders University of South Australia. He vas a Research Chemist at Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co. Ltd. from 1971 to 1978 and a Research Officer at Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Oxford University, U.K. bet veen 1978 and 1980 before joining Hokkaido University in 1980 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry. He vas promoted to Associate Professor in 1981 and Professor in 1990. He is also a Principal Investigator of International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA) Satellite, National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) since 2008. His scientific interests include photoelectrochemistry of semiconductor electrodes, surface electrochemistry of single crystalline metal electrodes, electrocatalysis, modification of solid surfaces by molecular layers, and non-linear optical spectroscopy at interfaces. [Pg.337]

Australia also reported its largest ever seizure of safrole for 2003, when an attempt was made to smuggle over 400 litres of the substance into the country by declaring it as white oil , an industrial oil used in the manufacture of cosmetics. Together with the safrole, authorities found methylamine, a non-controlled substance used in the illicit manufacture of MDMA and methamphetamine. The Board is pleased to note that, through proper follow-up investigations into the interception, an illicit MDMA laboratory in the country was identified and dismantled. [Pg.18]

In order to promote a uniform approach to offering compensation to subjects and indemnity to investigators and institutions conducting clinical trials, Medicines Australia has published a Form of Indemnity for Clinical Trials and Guidelines for Compensation for Injury Resulting from Participation in a Company-Sponsored Chnical Trial. These documents are based on those published by the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry and are available from www.medicinesaustralia.com.au (the Medicines Australia website). [Pg.679]
