Another design option that can be considered if a column will not fit is use of an intermediate reboiler or condenser. An intermediate condenser is illustrated in Fig. 14.5. The shape of the box is now altered because the intermediate condenser changes the heat flow through the column. The particular design shown in Fig. 14.5 would require that at least part of the heat rejected from the intermediate condenser be passed to the process. An analogous approach can be used to evaluate the possibilities for use of intermediate reboilers. Flower and Jackson," Kayihan, and Dhole and Linnhofl have presented procedures for the location of intermediate reboilers and condensers. [Pg.346]

As pointed out in Chap. 5, replacing simple columns by complex columns tends to reduce the vapor (and heat) load but requires more of the heat to be added or removed at extreme levels. This means that the introduction of complex columns in the design might prejudice heat integration opportunities. Thus the introduction of complex distillation arrangements needs to be considered simultaneously with the heat integration. This can be carried out manually with some trial and error or using an automated procedure such as that of Kakhu and Flower. ... [Pg.349]

The cores of the spiral waves need not be stationary and can move in periodic, quasi-periodic or even chaotic flower trajectories [42, 43]. In addition, spatio-temporal chaos can arise if such spiral waves break up and the spiral wave fragments spawn pairs of new spirals [42, 44]. [Pg.3066]

Carotenoids are natural pigments characterized by a tail to tail linkage between two C20 units and an extended conjugated system of double bonds They are the most widely dis tributed of the substances that give color to our world and occur m flowers fruits plants insects and animals It has been estimated that biosynthesis from acetate produces approximately a hundred million tons of carotenoids per year The most familiar carotenoids are lycopene and (3 carotene pigments found m numerous plants and easily isolable from npe tomatoes and carrots respectively... [Pg.1100]
