Flowering latitude

Plant. Soybeans grow on erect, bushy aimual plants, 75—125 cm high, having hairy stems and trifoliate leaves. The flowers are white or purple or combinations thereof. Growing season varies with latitude and is 120—130 d in central Illinois. [Pg.292]

In the green house at a northern latitude S. divinorum elongated rapidly several feet in height shortly before flowering (Fig. 2). Although the mint was normally nearly devoid of odor, its upper leaves and flowering stalks became strongly aromatic as buds developed. We always observed pubescent white flowers with a purplish to blue-violet calyx. [Pg.394]

Apparent changes in atmospheric fine particle concentrations within the 30° to 60° latitude zone in the northern hemisphere have been pointed out by McCormick and Ludwig (14) and by Flowers et ah (15), based on turbidity measurements made in the United States and Europe. The absence of detectable turbidity changes over a period of 15 years in the southern hemisphere is shown by data presented by Fischer (16). These two observations confirm our earlier remarks relative to the separating of the northern and southern hemispheres and that aerosol effects are noticed most in the mid-latitudes of the northern hemisphere. [Pg.11]

An annual and a biennial breed of Hyoscyamus nigerMQ known. The annual flowers in the same year in which it is sown. In the first year the biennial forms only a rosette of leaves that is attached to the soil and with which it passes the winter. After vernalization brought about by the cold of winter it forms flowers in the second year provided that the days are long enough (Fig. 232). Long days prevail in our latitudes in the summer. The difference between the annual and biennial breeds has also been shown to be genetically determined. Of the many facts discovered first by... [Pg.290]
