And it s not just food that can contain pesticide residues. Cut flowers, often imported from countries where pesticide use is less strictly controlled, may have been sprayed with substances that are banned in other nations— so growing your own makes sense.

Herbaceous perennials can be planted in beds or borders by themselves, or mixed with bedding plants, shrubs, or roses. They can be placed in bold groups, lingering drifts, or small clumps, depending on the plant, its character, and the desired effect. Many flowers can be cut for flower-arranging, avoiding the high pesticide input and air miles associated with most commercial cut flowers. 

Lavender oil is produced by steam distillation of freshly cut, flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia Mill. (Lamiaceae). It is a pale yellow, amber-tinged liquid with a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous odor on a woody balsamic base. 

Lavandin oil is obtained by steam distillation of freshly cut flowering tops of lavandin, which is a hybrid of lavender and spike Lavandula angustifolia Mill, x Lavandula latifolia Medik.). It is a pale yellow to amber liquid with a lavender-like and a slightly camphoraceous note. 

Silver salts, particularly AgN03 and [Ag(S203)2]3, are used to preserve cut flowers.117 The eSect is associated with the inhibition of ethylene production in the flower. 

The family is South African some are cultivated for cut flowers. 

Representatives of the family are found in tropical North and South America, Australia, New Guinea, and South Africa. Some are cultivated for cut flowers. 

Silver ions923 and 2,5-norbornadiene (NBD)924 are well known as effective inhibitors of ethylene action. Silver, applied in the form of thiosulfate (silver thiosulfate (STS)), is a very effective inhibitor of ethylene action. It has been used with much success on cut flowers and potted plants. But as it is a heavy metal it cannot be used on food and feed, and is harmful to environment. As NBD requires continuous exposure and a high concentration, and has a strong odor, it also cannot be used on cut flowers and food. Furthermore, both compounds are toxic for plant growth in high concentration.

Cytokinins also delay senescence and hence can be used to prolong the shelf life of fresh vegetable and cut flowers and to promote seed germination. Cytokinins appear to be involved with transfer RNA (t-RNA) and, therefore, they possibly play a role in regulating the incorporation of specific amino acids into proteins. 

Another topic is the protection of perishable fruits, vegetables, potted plants, and cut flowers. Many tropical fruits and vegetables are chill sensitive and cannot be transported or stored under low-temperature conditions. Other means for delaying deterioration are therefore needed.

Their colorful leaves or drooping flower clusters make these plants ideal focal points in the garden. They grow from 1 to 6 tall, depending on the species and cultivar. The leaves or flowers also stand out in cut flower arrangements. 

Foxgloves enjoy a shady site with rich, moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Plants tolerate full sun, but favor cool weather and need shade in extreme summer heat. Water regularly to maintain soil moisture. Stake tall cultivars to support flower spikes plant in a sheltered site. Remove foxgloves after they have set seed and self-sown next year s crop. Cutting flowers before they set seed promotes second-year blooms, but flowering is reduced the second year. 

These fragrant, climbing annuals make excellent cut flowers. Clusters of lavender, pink, or white blossoms appear in spring. Plants can grow 1 -6 tall. Hot weather kills cultivars that aren t heat-resistant. 

Single or double blooms may be l"-6" wide. The 6 - 36" plants are covered with finely cut leaves. Marigolds may have a strong odor if you dislike the scent, look for an odorless cultivar. Marigolds are good bedding plants, pot plants, and cut flowers. 

Lily of the valley is used in bouquets or cut flower arrangements and as a garden perennial. 

Use Analytical chemistry (reagent for pentoses and with vanillin for determining the presence of free hydrogen chloride), decalcifying agent for bones, preparation of pharmaceuticals and dyes, resins, preservative for cut flowers, textile dyeing and printing. 

In terms of the service, I ll have to admit that it is not the fastest or the most efficient in the world. However, the pace of the restaurant is relaxing and resembles the feel of being at home. And the homestyle cooking combined with the attention to small details, such as the fresh-cut flowers on the table or the homemade jams, is what turns folks into regulars. - Reviewed by Susie Park...
