Auxin flower development

There is accumulating evidence for cooperation of the CSN and cullin-based complexes in specific developmental processes [96]. First insight has been provided by studies on auxin response where the CSN interacts with SCF , modulating its activity [55]. Similarly, binding of the CSN to other cullin-based complexes regulates their activity in mediating various developmental processes such as flower development, and plant defense responses [97, 98].

Endogenous auxins are involved in fruit set and growth. Normally, fruit will not develop if the flower is not pollinated and fertilization occurs. In some plants, fertilization of one egg cell is sufficient but in others, such as melons and apples, several seeds must be fertilized. By treating the female flower parts with auxin it is possible to produce parthenocarpic fruit (fruit produced without fertilization) such as seedless tomatoes and cucumbers (30). 

O. have been shown to inhibit flowering, promote vegetative growth and control organ development in plant tissue culture. Effective concentrations of O. are 100-1000-fold lower than those of other plant hormones, such as auxins, cytokinins and gibberellins.
