Small round flowers

Flower Garden(or Thousand Flowers) A lot of small round flowers which appear at the same time (Fig.. 5) ... [Pg.10]

The diameter of a round flower must be correct. If it is too large the density of the stars is low, and the flower feels lonely. If too small, it looks as if it has shrunk (Table 2). [Pg.7]

Seeds with small, round holes. Cause Pea weevils. Seeds may be hollow. Fat, white, Va" long larvae feed on seeds. Adults are A" long, dark beetles with light markings that may feed on pea flowers. Discard infested seeds do not compost them. Cover seeded areas with row cover to prevent adults from laying eggs. Spray plants with pyrethrin if adults are present. [Pg.164]

Small, round holes in leaves Cabbage family plants, potatoes, spinach, flowers Flea beetles... [Pg.264]

Damage Adults chew numerous small, round holes in leaves of most vegetable crops as well as many flowers and weeds. They are most damaging in early spring. Seedlings may be killed, larger plants usually survive. Larvae feed on plant roots. Adults may spread viral diseases as they feed. [Pg.290]

Leaves wilt stems collapse. Cause Borers. Both European corn borer and stalk borer caterpillars are long, thin, and striped and tunnel within dahlia stems and flower stalks, causing collapse. Inspection of damaged plants reveals small, round holes in stems. Remove and destroy infested stems clean up debris where pests overwinter. If borers have been a problem in past years, spray BTK weekly in early summer before borers enter stems. [Pg.544]

Melons grow on plants that are either climbing or trailing vines with round, pointed or folded leaves, and small, yellow flowers. Melons are oblong to round. The surface of the... [Pg.686]

Large shrub to small tree, flowering and fruiting year round up to 12 m high native to the West Indies (Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba, etc.) also grows in tropical America (Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador). Part used is the dried bark from which an essential oil is obtained by steam distillation mainly from the Bahamas. [Pg.151]

Tea flowers are globular, about 3 to 5 cm in diameter, white, and delicately fragrant. They are borne in the axils of scale leaves (small leaves that do not develop further) and may occur singly or in small clusters. There are five to seven petals and an equal number of sepals. The flowers are mostly self-sterile and are produced in cycles corresponding to leaf growth, and require 9 to 12 months to form mature, round seed pods 1 to 1.5 cm in diameter. The tea plant is not generally allowed to flower during production cycles, with only a small number of the plants allowed to go to seed production to maintain seed stock. [Pg.50]

Artemisia stelleriana Bess., or dusty miller sagewort, beach wormwood old woman, or pai hao, fan, lu (Chinese), is a shrub that grows to 1.20 m in Japan, Korea, China, and Siberia. The whole plant is covered with a glaucous indumentum. The leaves are compound, and the lobes are rounded. The flowers are small, yellowish, and packed in globose capitula (Fig. 53). The medicinal values of Artemisia stelleriana Bess, were mentioned by Su Sung (11th century). It has been used internally for food, as carminative, to promote the growth of hair, and to stimulate mental faculties, and externally it provides a remedy for ulcers. [Pg.111]

Features Whole plant covered with silky hairs. Leaves rounded, about two inches across, nine blunt, serrate lobes, on long stalks. Greenish flowers, without petals, bloom in small clusters from forked stem. Astringent, saliva-drying taste. [Pg.57]

Features Stem erect, freely branched, three or four feet high, covered with small, straight, slender prickles. Leaves stalked, pinnate, with two pairs of ovate leaflets and larger terminal leaflet, rounded base, doubly serrate, pale green above, grey-white down beneath, about three inches long by two inches broad. Small white, pendulous flowers (May or June) in simple clusters. Astringent to the taste. [Pg.79]

Malamundi Leaves ovate with round base, spikes medium long, peduncle small, flowers bisexual and female almost in equal proportion, fruits medium, good setting. [Pg.23]

The fruit developed from a single female flower is either a fleshy drupe or a dry achene. The flowers fuse as they mature after fertilization, and a multiple fruit forms. The multiple fruit consists of small drupes or ach-enes grouped together in a single unit, and is usually round or oval shaped. [Pg.447]

The flowers of Leptospermum resemble flattened roses, and the small dark green leaves resemble those of the herb rosemary. Before tea was available in Australia, the leaves of Leptospermum were used as a substitute for tea, which is made from the dried leaves of a species of Camillia. From this early use by European settlers, the genus Leptospermum derives the common name tea-trees. Young branches and dried seed pods of Eucalyptus are popular in floral arrangements. The young branches have the attractive round leaves tightly appressed to the stem and are characteristic of juvenile material from species of the Myrtaceae. The leaves are mottled with wax. [Pg.483]

A shell ascends displaying some small effects thunders, small flowers, smoke etc. one after another on the trajectory. When the shell reaches the maximum height, it displays a round chrysanthemum flower the colour of the flower changes from one effect to another. When the flower goes out, a flare of bright light remains. [Pg.12]

The H3 charge has two great advantages the first is to project the stars quite a distance even when the wall of the shell is not very thick, and the other is to give an exact round shape to the flower even in small shells, e.g, of 2.5 inches or 3 inches diameter. Any other kind of charge will not be effective for such small- shells. The II3 charge is therefore still essential. [Pg.208]

Related to onions and garlic, but much prettier, ornamental alliums bloom in shades of blue, purple, pink, white, and yellow. Allium foliage may be rounded and hollow like onion leaves or straplike and solid when bruised, the leaves release the pungent fragrance associated with culinary alliums. The blossoms, however, may have a pleasant floral smell. Small star- or bell-shaped flowers cluster in 2"-9" globes atop leafless stems in early summer. Plants range from 6" to 5 tall. [Pg.15]

Plant fails to grow and/or flower leaves with swollen spots. Cause Bulb and stem nematodes. Feeding by microscopic round-worms causes deformed leaves with yellow-green spots and small, swollen areas. Bulbs develop dark internal circles or blotches and may fail to grow or bloom in spring. Dig and destroy severely infected bulbs and foliage. Soak mildly infested bulbs in hot (110°F) water for 3 hours, then plunge them immediately into cold water. Let them dry and store in a cool, dark place until fall when they can be replanted. Solarize infected soil or treat with a chitin source. [Pg.155]
