C14H30CI2N2O4. White powder prepared from dimethylaminoethanol and succinyl chloride, followed by methylation. Neuromuscular blocking agent used to relax skeletal muscles during certain types of surgical operation. 

Zn " solutions by, e.g., NaOH. Occurs hydrated and loses water on heating. Dissolves in acids and in excess alkali (to give zincates). Used as rubber filler and as an absorbent in surgical dressings. 

Surfaces can be active in inducing blood clotting, and there is much current searching for thromboresistant synthetic materials for use in surgical repair of blood vessels (see Ref. 111). It may be important that a protective protein film be strongly adsorbed [112]. The role of water structure in cell-wall interactions may be quite important as well [113]. 

This method is by far the easiest of the two methods I descnbe, but because it uses bromine liquid as a precursor to the dibromodioxane crystals a fume cupboard (or a fucking good method of fume extraction) is absolutely essential. Surgically removing ones gonads with a blunt knife would be a much less painful way of harming yourself than messing with this stuff in the kitchen. 

Most extmded latex fibers are double covered with hard yams in order to overcome deficiencies of the bare threads such as abrasiveness, color, low power, and lack of dyeabiUty. During covering, the elastic thread is wrapped under stretch which prevents its return to original length when the stretch force is removed thus the fiber operates farther on the stress—strain curve to take advantage of its higher elastic power. Covered mbber fibers are commonly found in narrow fabrics, braids, surgical hosiery, and strip lace. 

A special use for meltblown olefin fiber is in filtration media such as surgical masks and industrial filters (78). The high surface area of these ultrafine filament fibers permits preparation of nonwoven filters with effective pore sizes as small as 0.5 p.m. 

Vinyl alcohol does not exist as a monomer, but Herrmann and Haehnel (1) were able to obtain the desired product poly(vinyl alcohol) [9002-89-5] (PVA), by polymerizing vinyl acetate and then hydrolyzing the resultant poly(vinyl acetate). This process is employed for the commercial production of PVA even now. The principal concern of the discoverers was development of a suture for surgical operations the fiber then obtained was not suited for clothing use (2). 

Phospha.tes. Many phosphates cl aim unique material advantages over siUcates that make them worth the higher material costs for certain apphcations. Glass-ceramics containing the calcium orthophosphate apatite, for example, have demonstrated good biocompatibiUty and, in some cases even bioactivity (the abiUty to bond with bone) (25). Recent combinations of fluorapatite with phlogopite mica provide bioactivity as well as machinability and show promise as surgical implants (26). 

The immunorestorative potential of inosiplex has been evaluated in several clinical conditions, including post-surgical trauma, cancer patients with concurrent viral infections, and cancer patients receiving radiotherapy or chemotherapy. For example, most (84%) of the surgery patients remained immunologicaHy depressed, but 56% of the inosiplex-treated surgery patients had complete restoration of normal skin test reactivity (probability level < 0.0005). The use of inosiplex as an adjuvant to chemotherapy or radiotherapy appears to be valuable in the prophylaxis against opportunistic infections. 

Bioluminescence in vitro chemosensitivity assays are now used to assess the sensitivity of tumor cells (obtained by surgical or needle biopsy) to different dmgs and combinations of dmgs. Cells are grown in microwell plates in the presence of the dmgs at various concentrations. If the tumor cells are sensitive to the dmg then they do not grow, hence total extracted cellular ATP, measured using the bioluminescence firefly luciferase reaction, is low. This method has been used to optimize therapy for different soHd tumors and for leukemias (306).
