Surgical masks

A special use for meltblown olefin fiber is in filtration media such as surgical masks and industrial filters (78). The high surface area of these ultrafine filament fibers permits preparation of nonwoven filters with effective pore sizes as small as 0.5 p.m. 

Antibiotic treatment for 7 days will protect people who have had direct, close contact with infected patients. Wearing a close-fitting surgical mask also protects against infection. 

Wear surgical masks to reduce chance of contamination inhalation. 

Requirements that patients wear a surgical mask when outside the negative-pressure isolation room and be gowned or wrapped in a sheet so that their rash is fully covered. 

OSHA and EPA Level D is the normal work uniform, without respirator or any protective suit, although a surgical mask, gown, and gloves (frequently of latex) may be worn. This would be the type of PPE traditionally worn by hospital laboratory workers. 

Cover your mouth and nose. If gas masks are not available, use a surgical mask or a handkerchief. An improvised mask can be made by soaking a clean cloth in a solution of 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of water. While this is not highly effective, it may provide some protection. Covei- bare arms and legs and make sure any cuts or abrasions are covered or bandaged. 

Polypropylene (PP) fibre is one of the most widely used synthetic fibres in the textile industry. PP has some advantages it is cheaper and stronger than many other synthetic fibres and it has been applied widely in various fields, e.g., carpets, automotive interior trim, films, packaging, protective cover, and cables. In particular, it is used for healthcare applications such as surgical masks, babies nappies, and filters, which need to display antibacterial effects.

Have the patients put on paper coveralls with a hood, surgical mask, and disposable gloves (if these supplies are available) (Figure S2.ll) and move to the cold zone.
