Fume extraction

This method is by far the easiest of the two methods I descnbe, but because it uses bromine liquid as a precursor to the dibromodioxane crystals a fume cupboard (or a fucking good method of fume extraction) is absolutely essential. Surgically removing ones gonads with a blunt knife would be a much less painful way of harming yourself than messing with this stuff in the kitchen. [Pg.228]

As with all solvent-based materials, the need to observe TLV limits and the need for the work to be carried out only under effective fume extraction must be taken into account when considering this type of cleaning product. [Pg.281]

Good fume extraction and ventilation is needed because of the strong acids used. Fume washing may be necessary. [Pg.313]

Procedure (tungsten in steel). Dissolve 0.5 g of the steel, accurately weighed, in 30 mL of the mixed acid by heating, oxidise with concentrated nitric acid, and evaporate to fuming. Extract with 100 mL water, boil, transfer to a 500 mL... [Pg.697]

Inserts that are to be used in the molding have to be prepared by either grit blasting or chemical treatment. The grit blasting operations must be carried out in a sand blast cabinet or the operator must be in an approved air-supplied garment. If solvent-based adhesives are used, appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn (chemical mask, gloves, and apron) and the operation carried out in a fume extraction hood. [Pg.74]

Extraction hoods serve a number of useful purposes. These include removal of carbon dioxide and steam (the commonest combustion products) and of other, less desirable combustion products, such as sulfur dioxide and other acidic gases from some sample solutions, and of whatever elements were present in the samples. They also remove soot from excessively fuel-rich flames, which otherwise can make a real mess in the laboratory. It is unwise to run instruments for extended periods without fume extraction, even if there is nothing obviously toxic in the sample solutions. This is especially true for the nitrous oxide-acetylene flame. It is well worth considering interfacing the fume extraction switch with the instrument power supply, because it is easy to forget to turn on the extractor when everything else is automated. [Pg.101]

Good process control is required with weldbonding to ensure correct joint filling of the adhesive and to avoid weld quality problems. The process needs to be carefully controlled so that health and safety requirements are met. Welding through the adhesive may create hazardous fumes, and little information is available as to the organic compounds that are produced. Suitable ventilation and fume extraction equipment should be provided. [Pg.283]

Caution. Selenourea is toxic and should be handled with care. Experiments with selenourea should be conducted in an efficient fume hood or in a glove box vented to a fume-extraction system. The explosive hazard of perchlorate salts of metal complexes should also be noted. [Pg.83]

You should only operate an FAAS system iiiuli t iliiecl supervision. The instrument should be located under a fume extraction hood. The spectrometer requires approximately 20 min to warm up before switching the gases on and using the instrument. [Pg.177]

Turn on the fume extraction hood. This allows toxic gases to bo safely removed from the laboratory environment. [Pg.177]

The use of microwave equipment to promote reactions on TLC plates has also been reported [115]. However, this is not yet widely used in the laboratory, as, apart from the fact that equipment with direct fume extraction is not yet available, aluminum foil has to be ruled out as a support for sorbents ... [Pg.148]

The detectors have specific requirements, however, e.g. a supply of high quality air or nitrogen at 51min and efficient fume extraction of the exhaust from the detector stack is mandatory. [Pg.307]

Swing aside hoods These hoods are more efficient when used in conjunction with vibrating feeders. Cut-outs in the hood can facilitate charging. During tapping, the hood is swung over the ladle, allowing efficient fume extraction. [Pg.231]

The Tedak fume extraction unit is a proprietary system that has been developed for decommissioning operations where plasma arc cutting devices are to be used. Plasma arc cutting ejects small particles of molten metal and generates a fine... [Pg.171]

If an employer has purchased good-quality plant and equipment which is well maintained, there is little else to do. Some older equipment may require modifications to bring it into line with modern standards of dust extraction, fume extraction or noise, but no assessments are required by the regulations other than those generally required by the Management Regulations 1999 discussed previously. [Pg.9]

Extractor units, although widely used for fume extraction, have the disadvantage that the motor is directly in the path of the fume and will, therefore, suffer damage if not suitably protected. [Pg.119]

Small amounts of styrene monomer may be released during processing so the work-place should be adequately ventilated with a fume extraction system over the injection molding... [Pg.52]

Thermal stability is not as good as PS. At high melt temperatures, fumes can be a problem. Ensure that adequate fume extraction, or catalytic burning, is available over the nozzle (over the vent as well, on a vented barrel machine). [Pg.87]
