Narrow fabrics

Most extmded latex fibers are double covered with hard yams in order to overcome deficiencies of the bare threads such as abrasiveness, color, low power, and lack of dyeabiUty. During covering, the elastic thread is wrapped under stretch which prevents its return to original length when the stretch force is removed thus the fiber operates farther on the stress—strain curve to take advantage of its higher elastic power. Covered mbber fibers are commonly found in narrow fabrics, braids, surgical hosiery, and strip lace. [Pg.310]

The seamless preforms could be knitted with utilization of the stitch shaped-and-cut method, where different knitted stitch structures used within the length of the same preform distort it from the cylindrical shape into a shape conforming closer to the human body. Commonly, such shaping involves engineered rib waistbands and cuffs that result in a narrower section of the tubular garment part, but are extensible for better fit. In women s sport garments, rib, mock rib and other narrow fabric constructions could be utilized to shape the preform to the body shape as required. [Pg.105]

There are a number of technical functions of cords in clothing. Examples are ties to tighten anorak waists and hoods and shoe laces, which are usually circular or flat braids. In addition to basic mechanical performance, good knottability is needed. Narrow fabrics are used as belts. Webbings are widely used, particularly in a miUtary... [Pg.404]

Braided fabric n. A narrow fabric made by crossing a number of strands diagonally so that each strand passed alternatively over or under one or more of the other strands. They are frequently used in shoelaces and suspenders. [Pg.125]

Narrow fabric n. Any non-elastic woven fabric, 12 in. or less in width, having a selvage on either side, except ribbon and seam binding. [Pg.643]

Non-elastic woven tape A woven narrow fabric, weighing less than 15oz/yard, made principally of natural and/or manufactured fibers, including monofilaments, but not containing rubber or other similar elastic stands. [Pg.656]
