Kitting

The consolidation center should not be asked to pick kits for production, for several reasons. To pick kits, one needs pick lists based on the product s bill of materials, and sharing a bill of materials with the consolidation center means not only letting out key proprietary information, but also keeping it up to date. Whenever engineering changes are implemented in the plant, they must also be implemented at the consolidation center. The corresponding exchanges of data are much more complex than if the consolidation center only deals with individual items. 

The best time and place to pick a kit is next to the assembly line and just before it is assembled. The pickers can be experienced assemblers who will do a more careful and thorough job as a result of knowing what each part is for. Missing or defective components can be easily replaced, and there is no need to manage and transport a stock of kits.

Mizutani and colleagues reported the development of a new method for the analysis of 1-malate. As part of their study they analyzed a series of beverages using both their method and a standard spectrophotometric procedure based on a clinical kit purchased from Boerhinger Scientific. A summary follows of their results (in parts per million). 

Commercially available kits for monitoring blood-glucose use an amperometric biosensor incorporating the enzyme glucose oxidase. This experiment describes how such monitors can be adapted to the quantitative analysis of glucose in beverages. 

In many cases, optimized reaction buffers, nucleotides, and enzymes are packaged in kits along with detailed protocols by the manufacturers. Beyond the information provided by reagent manufacturers, laboratories need a coUection of experimental protocols (5,6). One such coUection is distributed on a subscription basis and updated quarterly (5). 

Latex agglutination immunoassays are easily formatted into simple kits which can provide yes/no and semiquantitative estimates of antigen (or antibody) in a sample. The first such assay was developed in 1957 for rheumatoid factor (15) and assays are on the market for the deterrnination of many species of bacteria, fungi. Mycoplasma, parasites, ckettsia, and vimses, as well as for the deterrnination of autoimmune disease, hormones (qv), dmgs (see Pharmaceuticals), and blood proteins (16). Latex agglutination is also the basis of many home pregnancy tests. 

The most used EIA reagents conjugate a fluotophote such as fluorescein-isothiocyanate (EITC) or thodarnine—isothiocyanate to antibody (or antigen) free amino groups. Examples of other commonly used fluotophotes for EIA and their spectral characteristics ate presented in Table 3. EIA assays ate available in sandwich and competitive formats similar to EIAs. Unlike EIA kits which can be used directly with visual color deterrnination, EIAs require a fluorometer, and thus ate primarily laboratory-based. 

Most immunoassay kits and many commercial immunoassay analyzers are based on heterogenous EIA or FIA. These include an immunoassay system that uses FIA linked to radial partition chromatography of the antibody—antigen complex (39) a system that uses antibody-coated tubes for enzyme immunoassay of a variety of hormones and dmgs (40) and a system that uses either a sandwich or competitive FIA format to measure a variety of analytes (41).

Aromatic diacyl peroxides such as dibenzoyl peroxide (BPO) [94-36-0] may be used with promoters to lower the usehil decomposition temperatures of the peroxides, although usually with some sacrifice to radical generation efficiency. The most widely used promoter is dimethylaniline (DMA). The BPO—DMA combination is used for hardening (curing) of unsaturated polyester resin compositions, eg, body putty in auto repair kits. Here, the aromatic amine promoter attacks the BPO to initially form W-benzoyloxydimethylanilinium benzoate (ion pair) which subsequentiy decomposes at room temperature to form a benzoate ion, a dimethylaniline radical cation, and a benzoyloxy radical that, in turn, initiates the curing reaction (33) ...
