Polyester resin kits

Guita percha is an isomer (transpolyisoprene) of natural rubber made from the latex of various trees of the genus Dichopsis. It is not as elastic as rubber, but becomes highly plastic on gentle heating. It is used chiefly for insulation of submarine cable. It is similarly soluble in organic solvents and carbon disulphide. [Pg.190]

Plastics are solid in their finished shape but can be classified into two types  [Pg.190]

Strictly speaking, resins are naturally occurring, nonpolymeric mixtures of carboxylic acids, essential oils, and terpenes that exude from various trees and shrubs and some insects that polymerize on exposure to atmospheric [Pg.190]

Polyester Resin Kit. The proper shipping name Polyester resin kit covers different kits such as filler, bonding and sealing compounds, chemical anchors and fibreglass repair kits. A polyester resin kit commonly consists of an unsaturated polyester resin mixed with styrene and a separate hardener (usually a phlegmatized organic peroxide) as a minor component. The main component (viscous liquid or paste) is inherently flammable due to the styrene content (flash point 29°C to 32°C). ICAO A2, lATA App. A... [Pg.191]

Polyester resin kits consist of two components a base material (Class 3, Packing Group II or III) and an activator (organic peroxide), each separately packed in an inner packaging. US 172.102(c)(l),40... [Pg.191]

Aromatic diacyl peroxides such as dibenzoyl peroxide (BPO) [94-36-0] may be used with promoters to lower the usehil decomposition temperatures of the peroxides, although usually with some sacrifice to radical generation efficiency. The most widely used promoter is dimethylaniline (DMA). The BPO—DMA combination is used for hardening (curing) of unsaturated polyester resin compositions, eg, body putty in auto repair kits. Here, the aromatic amine promoter attacks the BPO to initially form W-benzoyloxydimethylanilinium benzoate (ion pair) which subsequentiy decomposes at room temperature to form a benzoate ion, a dimethylaniline radical cation, and a benzoyloxy radical that, in turn, initiates the curing reaction (33) ... [Pg.223]

Adhesive pastes are used as repair kits, often in combination with woven glass-filament cloth for reinforcement. In this way, bodywork is repaired, worn surfaces are renewed, and pipes are sealed (epoxies, unsaturated polyester resins). [Pg.70]

Hand lay-up is used to make one-off and large articles that cannot be made by pressure processes. Commonly, boats, kit automobiles, swimming pools, spas, van bodies, slides, large tanks, piping and aircraft are made by this process. Polyester resin is used to the largest extent, followed by epoxies, polyurethanes and phenolics. [Pg.391]

The M295 Decontamination Kit, Individual Equipment (DKIE) consists of a pouch containing four wipedown mitts, each enclosed in a soft protective packet (Figure 16-38). Each wipedown mitt is made of a dry, adsorbent, black resin (the same as in the M2 91 kit) contained within a nonwoven polyester material and a polyethylene film backing. This kit allows decontamination of exposed areas of the protective mask and hood, personal equipment, and protective boots. Decontamination is... [Pg.387]
