Water-testing kit

M272 Water Testing Kit A lightweight portable kit used to detect and identify dangerous levels of common chemical warfare agents in raw and treated water in about seven minutes. It is a test water sampler and is not a continuous monitor. Each kit includes twenty-five tests for each agent. [Pg.322]

Water quality projects such as those described below have been shown to be effective methods for engaging students in environmental chemistry courses for majors (Juhl et al. 1997) and for nonscience majors (Lunsford et al. 2007). When the water quality research projects were conducted, Chemistry and the Environment was linked to a world geography course as part of a learning community. Poor water quality and access to potable water were a global environmental theme for both courses. Consequently, the chemistry research projects focused primarily on water analysis. Field water testing kits, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and fluorescence methods (typically for biological con-... [Pg.38]

Detection. Automatic detectors are available which detect attack concentrations of vapors of hydrogen cyanide, cyanogen chloride and cyanogen bromide. Draeger tubes are also available, as are water testing kits. [Pg.185]

Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) is also used for the detection of toxic compounds. A chemiluminescence test based on the reaction of luminol and an oxidant in the presence of the enzyme HRP has been developed to indicate the presence of toxins in a sample. The HRP-catalyzed reaction produces light that is measured by a lumi-nometer or a luminescence transducer. This enzyme has been used to detect a range of compounds such as phenols, amines, heavy metals, or compounds that interact with the enzyme, reduce light output, and indicate contamination. Test kits such as the Eclox Water Test Kit (Seven Trent Services, U.K.) is based on the use of HRP in the test format described earlier. This type of test is designed for the qualitative assessment of water samples for a range to compounds that inhibit the HRP activity. [Pg.150]

ASTM D 512 provides a method for measuring the chloride ion concentration of water. The sulfate ion content is measured in much the same way as the chloride ion test. ASTM D 516 provides a method of measuring the sulfate ion concentration in water. Titration methods and water testing kits can also be used. Soil chlorides can be found naturally in soils, or can be introduced by deicing salts and in a seacoast environment. [Pg.698]

The Chemical Agent Water Test Kit M272 consists of colorimetric detector tubes and enzyme impregnated detection tickets for nerve agent detection. The kit is designed to detect the presence of chemical agents in water samples. [Pg.207]
