Oxide titanium oxide

The effect of electron transfer between tungsten oxide and titanium oxide is also important in photochromatic applications. In an excellent study of aqueous sols. He et al. analyze the electronic structure of the tungsten oxide-titanium oxide system, finding that titanium oxide can catalyze the generation of W+. This state is a colored state and can be generated from WO3 WH2O by the following reactions ... [Pg.134]

Lipophilic ointment (oil ointment) consists of a lipophilic base (paraffin oil, petroleum jelly, wool fat [lanolin]) and may contain up to 10 % powder materials, such as zinc oxide, titanium oxide, starch, or a mixture of these. Emulsifying ointments are made of paraffins and an emulsifying wax, and are miscible with water. [Pg.16]

Various physical sunscreens such as heavy petroleum jelly, zinc oxide, titanium oxide, calamine are also used, which can stop and scatter ultraviolet rays... [Pg.452]

The old method of heating the calcium salts of formic and a second carboxylic acid for aldehyde formation has been modified by the use of a catalytic decomposition technique. By this scheme, the acid vapors are passed over thorium oxide, titanium oxide, or magnesium oxide at 300° or the acids are heated under pressure at 260° in the presence of titanium dioxide. In the latter procedure, non-volatile acids can be used. With aliphatic acids over titanium oxide, reaction occurs only when more than seven carbon atoms are present, the yields increasing with increase in the molecular weight (78-90%). Aromatic-acids having halo and phenolic groups are converted in high yields to aldehydes, e.g., salicylaldehyde (92%) and p-chlorobenzaldehyde (8S>%). Preparation of a thorium oxide catalyst has been described (cf. method 186). [Pg.152]

Membrane structures that contain the visual receptor protein rhodopsin were formed by detergent dialysis on platinum, silicon oxide, titanium oxide, and indium—tin oxide electrodes. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to evaluate the biomembrane structures and their electrical properties. A model equivalent circuit is proposed to describe the membrane-electrode interface. The data suggest that the surface structure is a relatively complete single-membrane bilayer with a coverage of 0.97 and with long-term stability/... [Pg.485]

Of all the materials tested, three compounds, cupric oxide, titanium oxide, and cadmium oxide showed considerable promise as catalysts. Several experiments were made using cupric oxide, but the results were erratic and not reproducible and it was not further investigated. [Pg.125]

Matrix nature silica gel, aluminum oxide, titanium oxide, polymer, graphite etc. [Pg.109]

Ionic solutes can be bandied with the help of modem stationary phases and - if necessary - the use of additives in the mobile phase. If this should not work, you can as a last resort turn to stationary phases based on polymers, aluminum oxide, titanium oxide, graphite etc. Or you can make use of an ionic separation mechanism such as ion exchange, or forget HPLC and think of CE or CEC, or just forget everything and go to see the next Star Wars episode. [Pg.121]

The peculiarities of the defect structure of TiC and TiN allow for oxygen dissolution on the first stage of oxidation. Titanium oxides appear later, when the material structure is saturated with oxygen. Anatase was observed at lower temperatures and/or short oxidation times (5 min). With increasing time and temperature, rutile is formed as the only oxidation product [108]. [Pg.177]

Composite Nafion membranes have been made by the incorporation of inorganic nanoparticles as methanol barrier components, which include silicon oxide, titanium oxide, or mixed silicon-titanium oxides (Arico et al. 2003 Dimitrova et al. 2002 Jung et al. 2003). One drawback of this approach is a decrease in conductivity due to the addition of the nonconductive oxide (Aparicio et al. 2005). [Pg.414]

After an additional deposition of smooth and thin metallic gold film and coating it with an alkyl thiol self-assembled monolayer (SAM), we were able to decrease this hysteresis to values of around 10°. By using thin and rough metallic films like wet chemically oxidized titanium oxide tmd a lluoralkylsilane SAM, the hysteresis values could be reduced to only 4°. [Pg.199]

Alumina may be strengthened by other additives, as weU. The most common additives to alumina are iron oxide, titanium oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, potassium oxide and sodium oxide. [Pg.383]
