Petroleum “jelly

Petroleum jelly is not recommended due to its low tracking lempeialure. The minimum tracking temperature is recommended to be 200°C, the same as for the busbars during a fault. Also refer to Section 28.4.1. [Pg.370]

Field coating of welds has always presented problems. Straw and jute with a greasy material was employed in 1910, but this later saponified in the soil. By chance the pharmacist Schade of Berlin learned of this problem and recommended the use of petroleum jelly in a bandage-like application. Hot-applied bitumen bands, as used by pipe works since 1928. proved to be most durable. Since 1930, electrical measuring methods have played an important part in research into insulation bands and pipe coverings carried out by the Gas Institute in Karlsruhe, the present-day Engier-Bunte Institute 18). [Pg.7]

VaseKn, n. petroleum jelly, petrolatum, (T.N.) Vaseline. -51, n. paraffin oil. [Pg.474]

Materials applied by dipping the article.to be protected in the hot molten raatierial. are usually b ed. on. petrolatum- Corroaon prevention depends largely on the barrier provided by the film, but for improved protection, cor-rtwion inhibitors are added. The film may be relatively hard and wwy or quite soft like pharmaceutical petroleum jelly. [Pg.757]

The HVI plates were leached with 0.1 M HC1. Be-7 was measured using intrinsic germanium coaxial and well detectors. Lead-210 was determined 30 days after collection stopped by separating and measuring Bi-210 (Poet et al., 1972). When Pb-210 was measured, the upper two HVI stages were coated with a thin layer of petroleum jelly to minimize soil particle bounce. [Pg.382]

A semi-solid yellowish substance consisting of a purified mixture of hydrocarbons also known as petroleum jelly. It is used as a softener in rubber compounding. [Pg.47]

There is no antidote for exposure to these agents. Treatment consists of symptomatic management of lesions. Eye lesions should be treated by saline irrigation and coating the follicular margins with petroleum jelly to prevent sticking. [Pg.214]

Petrolatum is produced from lubricating oils. Petrolatum is used in the medicinal field where it is combined with other compounds to form salves, creams, ointments and petroleum jelly. [Pg.37]

Low melting point Low boiling point Physically soft Malleable, not brittle Low electrical conductivity Dissolve in non-polar solvents Insoluble in polar solvents Ice melts in the mouth Molecular nitrogen is a gas at room temperature We use petroleum jelly as a lubricant Butter is easily spread on a piece of bread We insulate electrical cables with plastic3 We remove grease with methylated spiritb Polyurethane paint protects the window frame from rain... [Pg.68]

Paraffin wax is a solid crystalline mixture of straight-chain (normal) hydrocarbons ranging from 20 to 30 carbon atoms per molecule and even higher. Wax constituents are solid at ordinary temperatures [25°C (77°F)], whereas petrolatum (petroleum jelly) does contain both solid and liquid hydrocarbons. The melting point of wax is not always directly related to its boiling point, because wax contains hydrocarbons of different chemical structure. [Pg.76]

Q87 to protect surrounding skin v/ith petroleum jelly Q88 not to use if the patient is diabetic... [Pg.323]

It is important to check that a patient presenting with a foot problem does not have diabetes. Diabetic patients are at an increased risk of developing infections because of injury from the keratolytic action of salicylic acid. Patient should be advised to apply petroleum jelly to the skin surrounding the area where salicylic acid will be applied. Petroleum jelly protects the skin from the irritation caused by the salicylic acid. Using a file or pumice stone to gently rub away the surface of the corn or calluses helps to remove them. [Pg.340]

Lipophilic ointment (oil ointment) consists of a lipophilic base (paraffin oil, petroleum jelly, wool fat [lanolin]) and may contain up to 10 % powder materials, such as zinc oxide, titanium oxide, starch, or a mixture of these. Emulsifying ointments are made of paraffins and an emulsifying wax, and are miscible with water. [Pg.16]

The crayfish ventral nerve cords were excised, the medial and lateral giant axons partially desheathed. and the preparations placed in a chamber divided into 3 (1 cm ) sections. Each section was separated by petroleum jelly. Experiments were performed at room temperature (20-22 C). The crayfish Ringers was composed of (in mM/1) NaCl (146) KCl (4) CaCl2 Tris-... [Pg.395]

Vacuum grease, white petroleum jelly or Vaseline using a microscope. [Pg.236]

Various physical sunscreens such as heavy petroleum jelly, zinc oxide, titanium oxide, calamine are also used, which can stop and scatter ultraviolet rays... [Pg.452]

Hahn s Explosive. A cheap explosive mixture prepared as follows Burnt lime was dissolved in raw, odorless nitric-acid so as to produce a clear transparent fluid resembling petroleum jelly. This fluid was diluted with 1 to 5 parts of water according to the desired explosive power, and then mixed with a powdered cellulosic material such as peat, sawdust, etc, until a consistant mass was obtained. After giving this mass any suitable form, it was dried and used as a... [Pg.3]
