Silicon mixed

For the manufacture of millisecond delay detonators, faster burning compositions are necessary. Many have been suggested, but the two most commonly used are based on silicon mixed with either red lead or lead dioxide. Typical mixtures would contain between 30 and 50% of silicon and the remainder as oxidising material. [Pg.117]

Preparation of Silicon Tetrachloride. To prepare amorphous silicon, mix 2 g of dry quartz sand comminuted in an iron mortar with 3 g of powdered magnesium. Spill the mixture into a refractory test tube, secure it at an angle in a stand, and carefully heat first the entire tube, and then its bottom end more intensively until the mixture ignites. When the reaction ends, break the test tube, extract the product, crush it, and wash it in a fume cupboard, wear eye protection. ) with dilute hydrochloric acid until the flashes of light vanish. Filter off the silicon, wash it on the filter with distilled water, and dry it in the air. [Pg.174]

The process of the direct synthesis of organochlorosilanes is heterophase. However, it differs from many other heterophase processes in that solid silicon mixed with the catalyst is one of the parent components and is thus constantly spent during synthesis. It means that, as the reaction products form, the amount of the solid phase continually decreases. At the same time, the ratio of silicon and catalyst in contact mass also changes, until silicon is spent completely, which naturally impairs the conditions of the reaction. That is why there are several requirements to the construction of contact apparatuses for the effective direct synthesis of alkyl- and aiyl-chlorosilanes. So, the contact apparatus should provide for ... [Pg.54]

Direct synthesis is the reaction of alkyl or aryl chloride and silicon in the presence of a proper catalyst. Mostly, methyl chloride is snbjected to the reaction at 250 350 °C in a flnid bed with fine particles of silicon mixed with a copper catalyst (eqnation 2). ... [Pg.4454]

ARIDRY SN-25 is a fine silicone emulsion which produces highly durable water repellency on treated fabrics. ARIFIX SN is the catalyst recommended for use with ARIDRY SN-25. These products can be run alone or in conjunction with thermosetting resins, cationic dye fixtures and most all of the organic and inorganic accelerators. Some of the waxy type softeners are compatible with a resin-silicone mix, but each must be checked carefully to be sure that it does not cause back-wetting. [Pg.210]

Silicon Mix approximately 30-50 mg of the plastic sample with 100 mg dry sodium carbonate and 10 mg sodium peroxide in a small platinum or nickel crucible (carefully). Melt it slowly over a flame. After coofing, dissofve the material in a few drops of water, bring it quickly to a boU, and neutralize or slightly acidify it with dilute nitric acid. Add 1 drop of molybdate solution (see phosphorus test), and then heat nearly to boiling. Cool the sample, add 1 drop of benzidine solution (50 mg benzidine dissolved in 10 ml 50% acetic acid add water to make 100 ml), and then add 1 drop of saturated aqueous sodium acetate solution. A blue color indicates silicon. [Pg.47]

Silicones are produced in the form of resins, oils, greases, and also as rubberlike elastic products. These materials also appear as processing aids in the manufacturing of plastics, as impregnation compounds, coatings, separating materials, mold releases, etc. They can be identified because they contain the element silicon. To test for silicon, mix approximately 30 mg of the sample with 100 mg sodium carbonate and 10 mg sodium peroxide. Heat this in a platinum or nickel crucible over a flame. Dissolve the melt in a few drops of water, boil it, and then add dilute nitric acid until the solution is neutral or slightly acidic. The identification of silicon then follows in the usual way with the addition of a few drops of ammonium molybdate. (See Chapter 4.)... [Pg.70]

The antifoam addition point can be plugged, the silicone mix pot may be full of diluent without any of the silicone chemical, or the antifoam charge pump might be inoperable. Regardless of the cause, one should switch out of a coke drum (or put the unit on circulation) once it has been established that silicone addition is not controlling the foam level. [Pg.31]

The combustion flame of pulverized mesoporous silicon mixed with perfluoroe-icosane (C20F48) (PFE) is depicted in Figure 9.27 [23]. The ignition of a mesoporous silicon waver infiltrated with polyfluoropolyether (PFPE) is seen in Figure 9.28 [24]. [Pg.133]

The titanium dioxide and hydroxy acrylic resin are high sheer dispersed or bead milled. The CAB is predissolved in the solvents, before the resin and pigment are added, with stirring in the silicone. Mixed viscosity is 35-40 secs B4 at 20°C. S.G. is 1.02. The silicone improves mar resistance. Desmodur N75 is used where colour retention and durability are important. Curing is slower but this means longer pot life. [Pg.313]
