C22H34O2. A straight-chain fatty acid with 5 double bonds. A major component of fish oils and the oils of marine animals, clupeine Protamine class protein found in the sperm and testicles of the herring. On hydrolysis it gives about 90% of argenine. [Pg.102]

The fatty acids occur in nature chiefly as glycerides see fats), which constitute the most important part of the fats and oils, and as esters of other alcohols, the waxes. The naturally occurring fatty acids are mostly the normal straight-chain acids with an even number of carbon atoms. [Pg.173]

Hammen equation A correlation between the structure and reactivity in the side chain derivatives of aromatic compounds. Its derivation follows from many comparisons between rate constants for various reactions and the equilibrium constants for other reactions, or other functions of molecules which can be measured (e g. the i.r. carbonyl group stretching frequency). For example the dissociation constants of a series of para substituted (O2N —, MeO —, Cl —, etc.) benzoic acids correlate with the rate constant k for the alkaline hydrolysis of para substituted benzyl chlorides. If log Kq is plotted against log k, the data fall on a straight line. Similar results are obtained for meta substituted derivatives but not for orthosubstituted derivatives. [Pg.199]

The term p is a reaction constant and is mathematically evaluated for a particular reaction by plotting log kjkQ against a. The slope of the straight lines is p, and reflects the sensitivity of the reaction under study to effects of substituents. The value of p is obviously affected by temperature, solvent changes, etc. [Pg.200]

C27H55COOH. Glistening scales m.p. 89 C. A straight-chain, saturated fatty acid, that occurs in many natural waxes. [Pg.266]

They can be structured as straight chains as are the normal paraffins or... [Pg.3]

The rings most frequently encountered in crude oils are those having five or six carbon atoms. In these rings, each hydrogen atom can be substituted by a paraffinic alkyl chain that is either a straight chain or branched. [Pg.4]

There are little or no olefins in crude oil or straight run (direct from crude distillation) products but they are found in refining products, particularly in the fractions coming from conversion of heavy fractions whether or not these processes are thermal or catalytic. The first few compounds of this family are very important raw materials for the petrochemical Industry e.g., ethylene, propylene, and butenes. [Pg.8]

In straight-run petroleum products which do not usually contain olefins, four types of hydrogen can be easily differentiated as seen in the spectrum in Figure 3.10 ... [Pg.66]

The resolution of capillary columns enables the separation of all principal components of a straight-run gasoline. The most frequently used stationary phases are silicone-based, giving an order of hydrocarbon elution times close to the order of increasing boiling point. [Pg.73]

ASTM proposes representing the kinematic viscosity of hydrocarbons by a straight line on graph paper, called viscometric, for which the scales are such that ... [Pg.129]

T = temperature a, b = straight line coefficients c = kinematic viscosity log = common logarithm (base 10)... [Pg.129]

The straight line and consequently its coefficients are determined starting from two known viscosity values. [Pg.129]

Figure 5.11 Cetane profile of a straight run diesel fuel. ... Figure 5.11 Cetane profile of a straight run diesel fuel. ...
The properties of straight run diesel fuels depend on both nature of the crude oil and selected distillation range. Thus the paraffinic crudes give cuts of satisfactory cetane number but poorer cold characteristics the opposite will be observed with naphthenic or aromatic crudes. The increasing demand for diesel fuel could lead the refiner to increase the distillation end point, but that will result in a deterioration of the cloud point. It is generally accepted that a weight gain in yield of 0.5% could increase the cloud point by 1°C. The compromise between quantity and quality is particularly difficult to reconcile. [Pg.223]

Paraffins consist mainly of straight chain alkanes, with a very small proportion of isoalkanes and cycloalkanes. Their freezing point is generally between 30°C and 70°C, the average molecular weight being around 350. When present, aromatics appear only in trace quantities. [Pg.285]

Straight run diesei fuels have a high paraffin content, which is desirable, incidentally, for obtaining high cetane numbers. The higher the distillation end point, the higher is the heavy paraffin content (with a carbon number greater than C24). [Pg.353]

Table 10.21 gives a typical example of hydrotreating a straight run (SR) gas oil. [Pg.403]

The same definition of viscosity applies to oil as gas (see Section 5.2.6), but sometimes the kinematic viscosity is quoted. This is the viscosity divided by the density (u = i7p), and has a straight line relationship with temperature. [Pg.109]

Next, we align all logs at the datum plane which now becomes a straight horizontal line. Note that by doing so we ignore all structural movements to which the sequence has been exposed. [Pg.138]

Once the production potential of the producing wells is insufficient to maintain the plateau rate, the decline periodbegins. For an individual well in depletion drive, this commences as soon as production starts, and a plateau for the field can only be maintained by drilling more wells. Well performance during the decline period can be estimated by decline curve analysis which assumes that the decline can be described by a mathematical formula. Examples of this would be to assume an exponential decline with 10% decline per annum, or a straight line relationship between the cumulative oil production and the logarithm of the water cut. These assumptions become more robust when based on a fit to measured production data. [Pg.209]

In the simplest case, for a pressure drawdown survey, the radial inflow equation indicates that the bottom hole flowing pressure is proportional to the logarithm of time. From the straight line plot ot pressure against the log (time), the reservoir permeability can be determined, and subsequently the total skin of the well. For a build-up survey, a similar plot (the so-called Horner plot) may be used to determine the same parameters, whose values act as an independent quality check on those derived from the drawdown survey. [Pg.223]

At the end of the project life a residual unrecovered asset value will remain. This is usually accepted in full as a capital allowance in the final year of the project. Hence the total asset value is fully recovered over the life of the field, but at a slower rate than in the straight line method. [Pg.311]

Assume that the only previous capex had been 120 m, spent in the previous year, with 25% straight line capital allowance, thus capital allowance in this year = 0.25 x 120 m + 0.25 X 80 m = 50 m. [Pg.313]
