1 Nonparallel, Straight Operating Line, and Equilibrium Curve 

The term is one of several ways for defining NTU discussed in this chapter. A similar derivation for the number of overall liquid-phase transfer units gives 

Although this analysis was made in reference to an absorber model, Equations 

7 and 15.8 apply equally well to a stripper as long as it is a three component system where one of the components, the solute, is at dilute concentrations, and is the only one that can transfer across the phases. 

The NTU are calculated numerically in Example 15.1 and compared to the equivalent number of equilibrium stages.
