Consider now thermal coupling of the prefractionator arrangement from Fig. 5.116. Figure 5.16a shows a prefi-actionator arrangement with partial condenser and reboiler on the prefractionator. Figure 5.166 shows the equivalent thermally coupled prefractionator arrangement sometimes known as a Petlyuk column. To make the two arrangements in Fig. 5.16 equivalent, the thermally coupled prefractionator requires extra plates to substitute for the prefractionator condenser and reboiler. [Pg.152]

If the separation and recycle of unreacted feed material is not a problem, then we don t need to worry too much about trying to squeeze extra conversion from the reactor. [Pg.277]

Heterogeneous catalysts are more common. However, they degrade and need replacement. If contaminants in the feed material or recycle shorten catalyst life, then extra separation to remove these contaminants before the feed enters the reactor might be justified. If the cataylst is sensitive to extreme conditions, such as high temperature, then some measures can help to avoid local hot spots and extend catalyst life ... [Pg.279]

Covers all land eastwards to the Urals, southwards to North Africa and up to Syria, Iraq and Iran. Scale - 1 5,500,000, 4-colour artwork. Features main roads, railways, oil and gas pipelines, plus extra information including national flags, currencies and populations. [Pg.439]

Carbon 12, the most abundant naturally occurring isotope, has zero spin and thus cannot be studied by NMR. On the other hand, its isotope carbon 13 has an extra neutron and can be its low natural occurrence (1.1%) nevertheless makes the task somewhat difficult. Only pulsed NMR can be utilized. [Pg.67]

When ethanoi is present, the risk of separation is much less than with methanol. Nevertheless, the ethanol should be relatively anhydrous (less than 3000 ppm water) moreover, if a fuel containing ethanol comes in contact with a water layer, a migration of ethanol toward the water is observed creating a fuel quality problem manifested by lower octane number and an environmental quality problem in that the water will need to be treated. Distribution of ethanol-based fuels requires extra precaution to ensure dryness in distribution systems. [Pg.244]

Although benzene contains three carbon-carbon double bonds, it has a unique arrangement of its electrons (the extra pairs of electrons are part of the overall ring structure rather than being attached to a particular pair of carbon atoms) which allow benzene to be relatively unreactive. Benzene is, however, known to be a cancer-inducing compound. [Pg.93]

If no appraisal was performed, and the development was started based, say, on the medium case STOMP of 48 MMstb, then the actual STOMP would not be found until the facilities were built and the early development wells were drilled. If it turned out that the STOMP was only 20 MMstb, then the project would lose 40 million, because the facilities were oversized. If the STOMP is actually 48 MMstb, then the NPV is assumed to be the same as for the medium case after appraisal. If the STOMP was actually 100 MMstb, then the NPV of + 40 million is lower than for the case after appraisal (+ 66 million) since the facilities are too small to handle the extra production potential. [Pg.181]

Plots such as this can be used to compare actual to planned progress. If progress Is delayed at any point, but the completion date cannot be slipped, the plot can be used to determine how many extra resource units have to be employed to complete the project on time. [Pg.298]

Cost estimates can usually be broken into firm items, and items which are more difficult to assess because of associated uncertainties or novelty factor. For example, the construction of a pipeline might be a firm item but its installation may be weather dependent, so an allowance could be included to cover extra lay-barge charges if poor sea conditions are likely. [Pg.299]

If extra treatment capacity is not cost effective another option may be to handle the produced water differently. The water treatment process is defined by the production stream and disposal specifications. If disposal specifications can be relaxed less treatment will be required or, a larger capacity of water could be treated. It is unlikely that environmental regulators will tolerate an increase in oil content, but if much of the... [Pg.360]

Companies which own process facilities and evacuation routes, but no longer have the hydrocarbons to fill them, can continue to operate them profitably by renting the extra capacity or by charging tariffs for the use of export routes. [Pg.367]

Up to 20 modules can be connected to the network without the need for extra cable between the base station and the scanner is needed. [Pg.801]

Dislocation theory as a portion of the subject of solid-state physics is somewhat beyond the scope of this book, but it is desirable to examine the subject briefly in terms of its implications in surface chemistry. Perhaps the most elementary type of defect is that of an extra or interstitial atom—Frenkel defect [110]—or a missing atom or vacancy—Schottky defect [111]. Such point defects play an important role in the treatment of diffusion and electrical conductivities in solids and the solubility of a salt in the host lattice of another or different valence type [112]. Point defects have a thermodynamic basis for their existence in terms of the energy and entropy of their formation, the situation is similar to the formation of isolated holes and erratic atoms on a surface. Dislocations, on the other hand, may be viewed as an organized concentration of point defects they are lattice defects and play an important role in the mechanism of the plastic deformation of solids. Lattice defects or dislocations are not thermodynamic in the sense of the point defects their formation is intimately connected with the mechanism of nucleation and crystal growth (see Section IX-4), and they constitute an important source of surface imperfection. [Pg.275]

One type of dislocation is the edge dislocation, illustrated in Fig. VII-7. We imagine that the upper half of the crystal is pushed relative to the lower half, and the sequence shown is that of successive positions of the dislocation. An extra plane, marked as full circles, moves through the crystal until it emerges at the left. The process is much like moving a rug by pushing a crease in it. [Pg.275]

The illustrative data presented in Table VII-3 indicate that the total surface energy may amount to a few tenths of a calorie per gram for particles on the order of 1 /xm in size. When the solid interface is destroyed, as by dissolving, the surface energy appears as an extra heat of solution, and with accurate calorimetry it is possible to measure the small difference between the heat of solution of coarse and of finely crystalline material. [Pg.280]

The factor of 2 in the first tenn comes from spin. In the exchange temi, there is no extra factor of 2 because one can subtract off a double-counting tenn (see equation Al.3.19). The simnnations can be executed as per equation A 1.3.29 to yield... [Pg.95]

It would be an accident if it,vanished even though D but if this were the case it might well indicate that there is some extra imconsidered synnnetry present. [Pg.160]
