Evacuation routes

Evacuation routes are of prime importance for the safety of plant workers during an emergency. They should contain the following features  [Pg.197]

In case of a major disaster, one platform in a region will be equipped to act as a control centre from which rescue operations are co-ordinated. Evacuation routes will be provided, and where large complexes are clustered together, a standby vessel will be available in the region to supply emergency services such as fire fighting and rescue. [Pg.285]

Companies which own process facilities and evacuation routes, but no longer have the hydrocarbons to fill them, can continue to operate them profitably by renting the extra capacity or by charging tariffs for the use of export routes. [Pg.367]

SjieLific evacuation routes were identified for each secior within the evacuation radius. [Pg.330]

The contingency plan must include an evacuation plan for facility pcrsoiuicl if the possibility exists that c acuation might become necessary. The evacuation plan must describe signal(s) lo be used to begin evacuation, evacuation routes, and alternate c acuation routes (in cases where prinuiry routes could be blocked by releases of hazardous wastes or fires) ... [Pg.40]

Administration Sample shipment Interface with home office Maintenance of emergency telephone numbers, evacuation route maps, and vehicle keys Coordination with transporters, disposal sites, and appropriate federal, state, and local regulatory... [Pg.659]

General Considerations 1 Location of people relative to the unit 2 Location of critical systems 3 Dominant wind direction 4 Climate and weather extremes earthquake, flooding, windstorms 5 Site topography 6 External hazards or threats (fire/explosion/toxic release from nearby process or facility aircraft subsidence sabotage) 7 Traffic flow patterns and clearances from process vessels and lines 8 Security and reliability of all critical feeds and utilities 9 Command center and alternate command center locations 10 Evacuation routes, emergency exits, safe rally spots... [Pg.31]

They should be located in the path of normal and emergency evacuation routes from the immediate area. In an panic situation personnel may immediately evacuate and not activate emergency controls if they are located at inconvenient locations. [Pg.119]

Manual activation devices are normally placed in the main egress routes from the facility or location. Usually placement in the immediate high hazard location egress route and at the periphery evacuation routes or muster location of the installation is accomplished. [Pg.178]

Two evacuation routes, situated as far apart as practical, should be provided from all hydrocarbon processes or normally occupied work areas. Areas that are considered low hazard (no hydrocarbons, chemicals or other flammables are in the immediate area) may be allowed one escape route. The exception to this is rooms located on an offshore installation in proximity to hydrocarbon processes. [Pg.197]

Evacuation routes should be generally straight and direct to points of safety or embarkation. [Pg.197]

A minimum width of 1.0 meter (39 inches) should be maintained on all main evacuation routes. [Pg.197]

The evacuation route should be simple to locate and negotiable even in emergency lighting conditions. If the route is not obvious, adequate demarcation (i.e., signs and arrows) should be... [Pg.197]

A minimum of 1.0 foot candles of illumination should be provided to the centerline of evacuation routes. This illumination should be available for the evacuation routes for the duration of the expected emergency evacuation period, but not less than 90 minutes. [Pg.198]

Green a. Marking of safety equipment (e.g., gas masks, stretchers, etc.). b. Marking of emergency egress and evacuation routes. c. Control panel indication of a "safe" status of a operating mechanism. d. Safety showers and eyewashes. e. Electrical grounding conductors. f. Safe or acceptable condition indicators. [Pg.244]

In assessing the impact of radiant heat on equipment, evacuation routes, and support structures, the potential for escalation must be examined. [Pg.104]

Familiarizing the plant s local police department, fire department, local boards of health, and any emergency response teams with the hazardous nature of the plant s waste the layout of the plant site, including entrances and evacuation routes, and the location where the plant s employees usually work ... [Pg.106]

The CSEPP appears to have emergency management activities under control and to enjoy the tmst and respect of Pueblo County officials. CSEPP personnel recognize that more needs to be done to develop evacuation routes and procedures and to complete the distribution of early warning radios. [Pg.47]

Before disaster strikes, emergency managers attempt to saturate the target area with information. All forms of media continuously highlight evacuation routes, shelter lists, and advice on preparing survival kits. Yet, when the storm passes, the flood subsides, or the quake ceases to rumble, the responders discover pockets of people who never got the message. Or they may have received a message, but not the one intended. [Pg.309]
