An important task in the project was the distribution of information. Some of the most important partners were therefore the media. Especially local and regional newspapers featured news and stories about the project and the next packaging types to be placed in the markets. Also TV-stations at the regional and federal level were reporting. Additionally, information material was spread to the households and several events informed the consumers about the project. 

The first step is to define the objectives of the flow model, and to identify those flow aspects that are relevant for the performance of the reactor. Then, the engineer must identify and quantify the various times and space scales involved, as well as the geometry of the system. These actions allow the problem to be represented by a mathematical model. Creating this model accurately is the most crucial task in the flow modeling project. 

One of the principal tasks facing the manager responsible for implementing a new plant layout is the planning and scheduling of the many activities involved in the project. Modem computerized systems have evolved into easy-to-use tools that avoid the need for a detailed technical knowledge of planning techniques. 

Frequent updates and reports will ensure that surprises are kept to a minimum and allow smooth progress of the project towards completion. Should problems occur in the project at any time, the modern planning systems allow rapid changes to the logic or task details and the consequent update to the project program. 

From the work breakdown structure (WBS), specifications can be written for each task of the project. Specifications include all relevant requirements to meet the project s quality dimension - materials to be used, standards to be met, tests to be performed, etc. Use extreme care in writing specifications, because they become the controlling factor in meeting project performance standards, and directly affect both budget and schedule. 

The menfor is solely a sounding board and has no other role to play in the projects and tasks the mentee undertakes. 

As intimated above, reaching this point, that is publication of this book, has not been a straightforward task the road has been sometimes rocky, with various professional and personal problems causing both the need to refine our original outline and the need along the way to commission late in the project new authors. To all our chapter authors, we are therefore truly indebted. Also included in the project are studies related to the large-scale use of such plants and their impact on the environment and society. The project consists of tasks for which the objectives are... 

A project development team completes a multitude of tasks over the project lifetime. Some tasks are heavily dependent on others and should be serialized, perhaps using Pattern 13.3, Short-Cycle Development others are largely independent and should proceed in parallel because downstream work is dependent on them. 

The students used the Gantt chart to plan and monitor the project progress. Each team prepared a detailed list of tasks, milestones and deliverables. A timeline was constructed based on the completion time, delivery schedule and estimated time needed to complete each tasks. The Gantt chart enabled the students to identify dependency between various tasks and recognize potential bottlenecks in the project. The critical tasks, scheduled tasks, completion dates and delivery time were clearly labeled. Each week the teams met to discuss and update the Gantt chart, as old tasks were completed and new one started. 

Cross [19] advocates a rational approach in the design process. He described in his book the seven steps procedure for the rational method for new design shown in Fig. 12.8-1 and listed in Table 12.8-1. The method covers every aspects of the design process from problem clarification to detailed design. It also facilitates better teamwork and enables better task subdivision. The project team employed this method to guide the design of the indoor air quality control appliance. 

Project Timeline and Milestones List the projected completion date of major tasks in the validation. This information is useful in monitoring the progress of the project and making sure proper resources are available at various stages of the validation. 

At this point in the project, we are ready to begin the construction phase. At which point, the project management function becomes paramount in importance. All tasks must be identified and tracked properly. Coordination of this phase can be kept in-house or be turned over to contractors. It is important that if the bulk of this phase is conn-acted out, strict goals are identified so that the progress of the project can be tracked closely. It is also at this point that we will need to obtain building pennits, emission permits, drug licenses, as well as controlled drug licenses. 

The validation protocol is a detailed plan for conducting a validation study. It is drafted by the individual or task group responsible for the project, reviewed for content and completeness following the firm s protocol review procedure, and approved by designated individuals. It describes the responsibilities of each individual or unit involved in the project. 

Most of these issues can be addressed through interpersonal skills, which are not the subject of this chapter. However, the staling process of chemometric models can be addressed by performing three important tasks during the project (1) publicize the limitations of your models as soon as you are aware of them, (2) do the hard work early on (experimental designs for calibration, collection and analysis of many samples) in order to avoid embarrassments through model extrapolations, and (3) keep an eye on your methods as they are operating, and update/adjust them promptly. 

First, the benefits of incorporating evaluation planning into project design are more likely if it is explicitly funded as a separate task. Funders should require discussion of communication evaluation in proposals for funding researchers should explicitly remind sponsors that these are important tasks by including them in proposals even when this is unsolicited. If neither group explicitly includes evaluation tasks in the funding application process, the inadequate status quo will endure (Balch and Sutton 1995). 

NRI s main task in the Zemships project is to develop a simplified mathematical model of ship propulsion. This model has been used together with measurement data from typical driving loop to optimise a driving strategy with regards to achieving high propulsions efficiency. 

The work breakdown structure is therefore a method of describing the work to be done in the project in terms of deliverables and the tasks to be accomplished. It involves defining major deliverables and accomplishments during the project and fisting a hierarchy of sub-deliverables and accomplishments. The deliverables and accomplishments are a sum of their sub components and the WBS is a sum of all the elements. A more detailed description of this can be found in any of the general books on Project Management [D-13]. 

The resources, which will be required in all projects, are human resources, support facilities, equipment and materials. Planning for these resources is the task of the Project Manager and the team. 

What is an appropriate action in these problem cases The Project Manager can only formulate an answer to this question after discussions with the other members of the project team, and not in isolation. Any new action is likely to affect the plans for the tasks which come later in the project and team involvement helps to spot these and assess their impact. By this method full commitment to the agreed action will be gained from the team members. 

Main project tasks should only be considered as completed when their objective has been achieved. As a control instrument, these objectives must be included in the project plan and must be defined in a measurable way. Figure 2 depicts these only as a symbol ( ) followed by the reference number as given in Figure 1 to maintain the clarity of the example. Because of their importance, the main objectives may be accentuated and shown with their descriptions. They indicate the assumptions on which the rest of the plan is dependent. They also serve... 

The alternative approaches to solve critical tasks in a project should be initiated, as soon as serious problems are foreseeable. If a problem cannot be solved within a section and within the allowed time, the master plan will need to be revised and the collaborating partners will have to be contacted to reschedule their activities accordingly. 

Major decisions can and must be anticipated and prepared by both the decision makers and by those who s further work depends on the decision. The major decisions for a development project, as proposed in Table 4, should be integrated in the project plan along with the necessary tasks for their preparation. Management should provide guidance on the information needed for such decisions. Most larger companies have established routine schemes for the major project decisions and for the necessary information and prerequisites. If applied pragmatically, such schemes can shorten decision procedures considerably.
