In the case of hi- or multi-exponential relaxation curves the treatment involved can be rather complex (119-123). It becomes even more problematic. Needles to say, the same is true for systems with suspected continuous distributions of relaxation rates, whose evaluation by numerical analysis of the decay curves (124-128) represents one of the most arduous mathematical problems (124-128). In general, evaluation tasks of this kind need to be treated off-line, using specific programs and algorithms. 

First, the benefits of incorporating evaluation planning into project design are more likely if it is explicitly funded as a separate task. Funders should require discussion of communication evaluation in proposals for funding researchers should explicitly remind sponsors that these are important tasks by including them in proposals even when this is unsolicited. The comparative nature of FP is an advantage but it also bears limitations. Some of them relate to practical aspects (product availability, control of evaluation conditions) while others are more fundamentally sensory pertaining to the difficulties of the evaluation task. Eventually, the relative nature of the data acquired may limit the use of FP for some applications. 

As in any sensory evaluation, one should ensure that all the products are presented in the same conditions of age (for short shelf life products), quantity, temperature, etc. In FP, presenting all the samples simultaneously at the same temperature can be quite challenging for unstable products such as hot beverages and ice-creams. In such cases, it is especially important to make sure that the samples remain stable while the subjects perform the evaluation task. An option is to renew the product set with fresh samples when needed in the course of the session. In regard to control of the conditions of evaluation, one could also argue that the fact that all products are evaluated in the same session ensures that they are evaluated in the same contextual conditions (Albert et al, 2011). 

Of course, presentation order effects (carry over, halo, etc.) cannot be controlled as in a monadic sequential protocol and can thus be a difficulty. Subjects experience plays a role here and partly circumvents these issues, as subjects can manage their own evaluation by adapting their tasting, mouth-rinsing and comparison protocols. Nevertheless, one should pay attention to sensory adaptation, sensory fatigue, etc. Besides, one should keep in mind that the way a session is conducted in FP is flexible, and can be designed so that the evaluation task stays feasible. For example, it is possible to plan long breaks between attributes or, if necessary, to set up separate sessions of two or three attributes only. 

This raises the question of the number of products that can be evaluated with FP. The answer, of course, depends on the nature of the products to be evaluated. The comparative evaluation task is believed to limit the number of samples that can be evaluated in a single session. Considering the theoretical number of pair-comparisons...

For complicated equilibrium calculations, the G-minimization technique is a useful option for the evaluation of phase equilibria, especially if both phase and reaction equilibria are involved. In contrast to the equilibrium conditions, the minimum of G is not only a necessary but a sufficient equilibrium condition. As well, for complicated equilibria it is often the only way to keep the overview. The only knowledge that must be available is the functional relationship for the Gibbs energy g and a clear concept for the minimum evaluation task. The results of general safety research programmes may also provide useful support to designers and reviewers in their evaluation tasks.
