Frequent updates and reports will ensure that surprises are kept to a minimum and allow smooth progress of the project towards completion. Should problems occur in the project at any time, the modern planning systems allow rapid changes to the logic or task details and the consequent update to the project program. [Pg.81]

On reaching the decision that there are benefits to be obtained from a planned system and that the system that will be most beneficial to the company generally is to be computer based, then the following aspects must be examined more fully ... [Pg.789]

Before installation, the planned system should be analysed in terms of possible component failures to ensure that it can operate as required. Commissioning running tests should include simulated trials of plant failure, and operatives should be made aware of failure drills to keep the plant running. [Pg.187]

Of course there are many planning solutions offered by vendors of MES or APS (advanced planning systems) (see for example S tad tier and Kilger [8]). The great advantage of a simulation based solution is the almost unlimited flexibility... [Pg.31]

This article is only an overview. Therefore the references contain Briill and Metz [8] and Metz [10] for an overview about supply chains and related planning systems in the chemical industry. [Pg.112]

To support decision making in supply chains, advanced planning systems (APS) have been developed and successfully applied in industry by several software vendors. Most of these systems rely on some kind of decomposition of planning tasks into software modules as shown in Figures 11.1 and 11.2. [Pg.240]

PP/DS focuses on determining an optimal production sequence on key resources. In PP/DS, a more detailed modeling than on the SNP planning level is chosen. This does not mean that all products and resources within a real-world production process need to be considered for PP/DS planning as nonplanning relevant products and resources can be excluded from the integration process between the ERP system and the planning system. [Pg.251]

In the embedding approach the ERP system is enhanced with subordinate planning systems that are integrated into the user interface of the ERP system and create a local temporary data storage (LiveCache). All data is still held persistently only in the ERP system (Fig. 12.3). This allows for the LiveCache to use a projection of the ERP data model that is more suitable for APS purposes. This approach is used, e.g., by the software product OR Soft SCHEDULE++. [Pg.265]

The embedding approach may require an improvement of modeling in the ERP system (i.e., to maintain additional detailed information for APS purposes) but it can utilize all established business processes, data models and infrastructures. Introduction of the subordinate planning system can be done step-by-step with minimum impact on established business processes. Integration is fully guaranteed... [Pg.265]

Sales order management deals with order entry, order change, availability check and confirmations to the customer. Availability check as a concept and as part of Advanced Planning Systems (APS) is also summarized under the term Available-To-Promise (Kilger/Schneeweiss 2004 Pibemick 2005). The availability has to be checked against the sales plan as stable framework for the overall period and the physically available material at the specific point in time. [Pg.63]

By employing the above subsystems, the production planning system has to be informed in real time about the availability of tools in stock as well as about the current contents of the tool magazines of the machine tools (in the case of FASs the robot hands in the end-of-arm-tool magazines) otherwise it will not be able to generate a proper production schedule. [Pg.168]

Both the process control and the production planning systems have to update any changes and act in real time otherwise the operation of the system can be disrupted. [Pg.168]

The output of the CAM system is a production rule base. This is the knowledge the FMS needs to produce each pharmaceutical product. In this production rule base, among others, tools are assigned to each operation. The tool codes are selected by the FMS process planner or automatically assigned by a process planning system and are obtained from the tool database. [Pg.169]
