The Doctor Test, NF M 07-029 or ASTM D 484, is conducted in qualitative tests for free sulfur, free H2S, and mercaptans. The specifications require a negative Doctor Test for these three types of contaminants. 

If sulfur is a contaminant, its content can be measured, but it may suffice to characterize its effects by the copper strip corrosion test, or by the doctor test".

No attempt should be made to remove imbedded glass. This is a hazardous procedure and should be left to a doctor—more damage can result if attempted by someone not skilled in this technique. 

In all cases the patient should be transferred to hospital or to a doctor, for further treatment of the wound, and also for a course of anti-tetanus toxoid, which is indicated if the patient is not already fully immunised. 

Remove the patient to the fresh air, and loosen clothing at the neck. If breathing has stopped or is extremely w eak, gh e artificial respiration and continue until the patient is transferred to hospital or until a doctor arrives. 

For serious cuts, send for a doctor at once meanwhile wash with a disinfectant and endeavour to check bleeding by applying pressure immediately above the cut. Continuous pressure should not be maintained for more than five minutes. 

In all cases the patient should see a doctor. If the accident appears serious, medical aid should be summoned immediately while first aid is apphed. 

Glass in the eye. Remove loose glass very gerUly with forceps or by washing with water in an eye bath. Call for a doctor immediately.

In Pihkal, Alexander Shulgin mentions that the preparation of MDP-nitropropene can be carried out in cold methanol with aqueous sodium hydroxide as the base. In fact, this method is even more reliable, and gives higher yields than the other method advocated by the dear doctor in his book. 

Historically, the development of the acrylates proceeded slowly they first received serious attention from Otto Rohm. AcryUc acid (propenoic acid) was first prepared by the air oxidation of acrolein in 1843 (1,2). Methyl and ethyl acrylate were prepared in 1873, but were not observed to polymerize at that time (3). In 1880 poly(methyl acrylate) was reported by G. W. A. Kahlbaum, who noted that on dry distillation up to 320°C the polymer did not depolymerize (4). Rohm observed the remarkable properties of acryUc polymers while preparing for his doctoral dissertation in 1901 however, a quarter of a century elapsed before he was able to translate his observations into commercial reaUty. He obtained a U.S. patent on the sulfur vulcanization of acrylates in 1912 (5). Based on the continuing work in Rohm s laboratory, the first limited production of acrylates began in 1927 by the Rohm and Haas Company in Darmstadt, Germany (6). Use of this class of compounds has grown from that time to a total U.S. consumption in 1989 of approximately 400,000 metric tons. Total worldwide consumption is probably twice that.

Barbier reported (1) in 1899 that a mixture of methyl iodide, a methyl ketone, and magnesium metal in diethyl ether produced a tertiary alcohol. Detailed studies by his student Victor Grignard are documented in his now classical doctoral thesis, presented in 1901. Grignard estabUshed (2) that the reaction observed by Barbier could be separated into three distinct steps Grignard reagent formation, Grignard reaction, and hydrolysis. 

An example in the medical field is use as a patient card. Basic data (name, address, date of birth, etc) are written as ROM, but the results of ongoing examinations are written as WORM by the doctor in attendance. For data security, code- and passwords can be used. 

In knife-over-roll or blade coating, the coating material is placed on the fabric surface behind a knife, or doctor blade, and metered according to the gap set between the blade and the fabric surface. This method is used to apply thick coatings of highly viscous materials such as pastes, plastisols, or foams.

Japan held 37.5% of the world antibiotic market ki 1988, the USA 23.2%, Italy 8.0%, the United Kingdom 5.4%, Germany 3.6%, and other countries 22.3% (20). The disproportionate size of the Japanese market is in part a consequence of the inherent strengths of Japanese industry which include expertise in fermentation technology and intensive chemical manipulation of known stmctures. In addition, antibiotic prescribing in Japan is extremely popular among doctors as a result of the Japanese reimbursement system.
