Compiled by Association of Research Librarians gives titles for dissertations appendix shows which publications of universities in United States contain abstracts gives information on photoprints, microfilms, and other facilities that universities have for providing copies. 

In conjunction with its research activities, TPRC screens the world s literature and collects published information on a wide range of materials in the field of thermophysics. This information concerns data, theoretical estimation methods, and experimental measurement techniques. Technical papers come from journals, abstracting services, reports, doctoral dissertations, masters theses, and many other sources. The full evaluation and analysis of the collected raw data are needed before publications on recommended values can be prepared. Such effort is obviously time consuming and expensive and therefore this critical evaluation is currently performed at a rather modest funding level. The end result is that much of the available world literature is not being processed and distilled. 

America History and Life. 1964-. Ipswich, MA EBSCO. This is a basic, but comprehensive bibliographic resource for the study of U.S. and Canadian history. The print edition has two parts Part A, Article Abstracts and Citations and Part B, Index to Book Reviews and Doctoral Dissertations. The online database included some retrospective coverage of leading history journals that go back to the late nineteenth century.

Simon, T. M. 2008. Engineering Success Persistence Factors of African American Doctoral Recipients in Engineering and Applied Science. EdD diss. Columbia University. The study identifies factors that influence African Americans to pursue and complete doctoral degrees in engineering and applied science disciplines. The study found key factors impacting doctoral degree completion included peer support, faculty adviser support, support from university administrators, and family support (from dissertation abstract from ProQuest).
