The supplier-user or vendor-vendee relationship, as it pertains to quality, is well described in the American National Standard s ANSI/ASQC Q90-1987 to Q94-1987. The standards are technically equivalent to the ISO 9000 to ISO 9004 series of the international Quality Management and Quality Assurance Standards. The recommended quality system specifies quality policy, organization, authority, personnel, management review, and so on. [Pg.398]

Quality. JIS standard G2302 shows that the first class material has 88 93% silicon content and it is used for explosives(carlit) or generating hydrogen gas in combination with sodium hydroxide. From the second to the fifth class, the silicon contents are defined as 75 80 , 3 7%, 25 30%, 20 25% respectively, and these classes are used as the deoxidation against in iron manufacture or the silicon supply for manufacturing silicon steel plate etc. The sixth class has 15 19% silicon content and is used for acid-proof iron vessels. Standards and standardization play a major role in reliability assurance. Only by using standard methods for product quality control can a product be introduced into the market. Quality standards are very important, especially for food analysis. Recommended standard (or etalon in French) matrices as well as methods are defined in terms of accuracy and precision.246 The European Union has prescribed strict quality standards for laboratories and the methods of analysis to be used in laboratories when carrying out official food quality control. [Pg.71]

The insulation resistance is not a "true" property of the material. It is determined by measuring the resistance between two electrodes applied to the specimen, with no attempt to separate conduction through the material from that along its surface, nor to calculate to a standard configuration from the electrode dimensions. Constructive Interoperability is related to engineering processes, standards, and specific technical agreements to be put in place in order to achieve interoperability. Colors in a laboratory should be coordinated, just as in a home. If pre-finished work benches are to be installed, they might set the color scheme. While they are available in several colors or combination of colors, the choice is not unlimited. In one case, the laboratory operator was color blind, so his wife took over the job as decorator. First, she selected a two-color scheme for the work benches. Color chips in hand, she then chose a floor covering from a number of samples submitted. Enzyme Reference Serums. Several companies sell lyophilized or stabilized reference serums for the calibration of instruments and for quality control. The label values given for the enzymatic activity of these serums should never be taken at face value, as at times they may be quite erroneous (19,33). Also, these values should only be used for the assay with which they were standardized, as interconversion of activity from one method to another for the same enzyme may often lead to marked errors. The revised database holds over 23 000 analyte values for 660 measurands and 1670 reference materials produced by 56 different producers, from 22 countries. The database is restricted to natural matrix materials (i.e. made from naturally occurring materials, excluding calibration standards manufactured from pure chemicals). Information has been extracted from the relevant certificates of analysis, information sheets, and other reports provided by the reference material producers. As a general rule, the authors have only included in the compilation reference materials for which a certificate of analysis or similar documentation is on file. Information included in the survey is on values for measurands determined in reference materials, producers, suppliers, the cost of the materials, the unit size supplied, and the recommended minimum weight of material for analysis, if available. The new searchable database has been designed to help analysts to select reference materials for quality assurance purposes that match as closely as possible, with respect to matrix type and concentrations of the measurands of interest and their samples to be analyzed see Table 8.3. [Pg.264]

In the author s experience, field residue trials can be conducted in Latin America under complete compliance with all ERA guidelines and recommendations. More time does need to be spent in planning and preparation to ensure that the personnel involved in the testing have been trained in GLP and that this training, as well as the compliance of equipment, storage and archival sites, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality assurance (QA) audits, are properly documented. [Pg.199]
