Submitting Samples

Time to Result. The time required to submit samples to a laboratory, have the samples analy2ed, and receive the results is not usually a critical health issue, although promptness in reporting the results of an evaluation adds credibiUty and impact. On the other hand, some evaluations of acutely acting substance may require immediate results such as a direct on the spot reading. 

Conformance to the standard is achieved by submitting samples to an approved laboratory for evaluation and submitting the laboratory report to the American Automotive Manufacturers Association (AAMA). The approved certificate is sent to the manufacturers with copies to the state and provincial jurisdictions for which the AAMA serves as approvals agent (16). 

Table 10.3 presents for each country, for the period 1994-97, the number of drug samples submitted for testing, samples tested and the failure rate in those tests. Data are available from all 10 countries on the total number of samples submitted and the number of samples tested, and these show that seven countries— Australia, Cypms, Estonia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Venezuela and Zimbabwe — have been able to meet the demand for testing (92-100%). Uganda has a relatively low test rate of 56% for the submitted samples, followed by Cuba and Tunisia at 72% and 88%, respectively. The lack of certain equipment and materials, such as reference standards and reagents, constrains analysis in Cuba, Cyprus, Uganda and Zimbabwe. 

Input control Maximum delays may be controlled by monitoring the work load ( q AT). When AT > or when exceeds a critical value ( crit)> customers are requested to refrain from submitting samples. Too high a frequency of such warnings indicates insufficient resources to achieve the desired... 

Work with those who submit samples to limit submissions to those likely to yield useful information. In a typical sample queue, some are outside of the parameters required for a standardized assay, having a concentration too low for the precision required or containing matrix components incompatible with the assay. Others may be low on the list of project priorities. Analytical morale gains if every sample run leads to results that are valued.

If you just submit samples to be run on various instruments, as I did as an undergraduate, pay most attention to the sample preparation sections. Often they say not much more than Don t hand in a dirty sample, but often that s enough.

Gross volatility differences in the components of a submitted sample may give misleading results. Occluded solvent is often the worst... 

A research about the role of the rainfall characteristics on the acceleration rate caused by chloride ions between two stations having noticeable differences in rain regime was already published[32]. The influence of chloride ions at Medellin and Havana corrosion stations was studied by submitting samples of steel and copper to salt spray during exposure to the open atmosphere. Up to 12 months of exposure, the acceleration on the deterioration caused by chloride ions was notably up to 12 months of exposure, being higher at Havana station for steel and copper. 

Inspection. It shall be conducted as described in Specification MIL-A-2550A, Amend 5 (Feb 1969) The supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements. He may utilize his own or any other inspection facilities. When reqd, the supplier shall submit samples to a Government approved laboratory for examination tests. 

Degradation Creatine and creatine phosphate spontaneously cyclize at a slow, but constant, rate to form creatinine, which is excreted in the urine. The amount of creatinine excreted is proportional to the total creatine phosphate content of the body, and thus can be used to estimate muscle mass. When muscle mass decreases for any reason (for example, from paralysis or muscular dystrophy), the creatinine content of the urine falls. In addition, any rise in blood creatinine is a sensitive indicator of kidney malfunction, because creatinine is normally rapidly removed from the blood and excreted. A typical adult male excretes about 15 mmol of creatinine per day. The constancy of this excretion is sometimes used to test the reliability of collected 24-hour urine samples—too little creatinine in the submitted sample may indicate an incomplete sample.

Any analytical method should be validated. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has proposed guidelines on submitting samples and analytical data for validation (78). In LC one should check at least specificity, selectivity, accuracy, precision, linearity, reproducibility, limit of detection, limit of quantitation, and robustness. 

Upon request from the FDA, the applicant shall submit the samples described below to the places identified in the agency s request. The FDA will generally ask applicants to submit samples directly to two or more agency laboratories that will perform all necessary tests on the samples and validate the applicant s analytical methods. 

We found that all samples prepared were effective in initiating photopolymerization, and on returning from Europe, I submitted samples of several of these new HABIs to Photo Products Department for evaluation, but no response was received. Of course, it is difficult to develop much enthusiasm for incorporating yet another new material into existing coating recipes, as this would entail a long round of testing, examination, etc. 

The analytical method has been in operation on a semi-routine basis for about 1-1/2 years, although we continue to incorporate minor refinements in the procedure. During this time approximately 500 submitted samples have been analyzed, including rat, monkey, and human plasma in quantities ranging from 0.25 to 2 ml. Levels of A9-THC in the samples have been typically in the 1 to 50 ng/ml range, although occasionally concentrations as high as 400 ng/ml are encountered. The precision of the method is shown in Table 2. 

Add0.5-1 iL matrix and ensure that crystals are formed that cover the entire sample well. Submit samples for analysis by mass spectrometry and compare peptide fingerprint with theoretic peptide masses in online databases (see Note 8). 

The FDA s lot release regulations allow the agency to require manufacturers to submit samples of any licensed biological products for testing [24], Manufacturers must submit to CBER representative samples of each lot, a lot release protocol, and a summary of the test results. Lots may not be released until CBER authorizes an official release. However, CBER does not require lot release in all circumstances.

Jellum, Stokke and Eldjarn have been very active in the metabolic profile approach over several years and routinely investigate perhaps the most comprehensive number of compound types [341]. They screen eight fractions from a urine extract (also plasma and CSF if necessary) by GC and submit samples which show irregularities to GC-MS for further analysis. Spectra are identified off line from a remote terminal of a large, fast central computer. They have had considerable success with their methods, independently reporting three new disorders [345, 355, 356] and are able to detect about 40 of the approximately 150 documented inborn errors of metabolism.
