Many other codes, standards, specifications, and recommended practices have been developed by various organizations (26). Some apply to specialized piping systems others, particularly those covering materials and dimensions, are referenced in the ANSI/ASME Code for Pressure Piping. 

American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice. In 1990, the American Petroleum Institute issued a recommended practice on Management of Process Ha2ards (35). The stated objective was to help prevent the occurrence of, or minimi2e the consequences of, catastrophic releases of toxic, flammable, or explosive materials. 

This recommended practice is intended to apply to faciUties that (/) handle or store flammable or explosive substances in such a manner that a release of ca 5 t of gas or vapor could occur in a few minutes and (2) handle toxic substances. The threshold quantity for the toxic materials would be determined using engineering judgment and dispersion modeling, based on a potential for serious danger as a result of exposures of <1 h.

Temper. The system for designating material condition, whether the product form is strip, rod, or wine, is defined in ASTM Recommended Practice B601 (1). The ASTM system uses an alpha-numeric code for each of the standard temper designations. This system replaces the historical terminology of half hard, hard, spring, etc. Table 3 summarizes temper designations.

Personnel performing examinations other than visual shall be qualified in accordance with applicable portions of SNT TC-IA, Recommended Practice for Nondestructive Testing Personnel Qualification and Ceitification. Procedures shall be qualified as required in Par. T-150, Art. 1, Sec. Vof the ASME Code. Limitations on imperfections shall be in accordance with the engineering design but shall at least meet the requirements of the code (see Tables 10-58 and 10-59) for the specific type of examination. Repairs shall be made as applicable. 

TEMA Numbering and Type Designation Recommended practice for the designation of TEMA-style shell-and-tube heat exchangers by numbers and letters has been established by the Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association (TEMA).
