Recommendations development

Discussion with operators provide substantial insight. The purpose of the discussion should be to develop an understanding of operators perspec tives of the unit, their foci for the operation, and their decision sequence in response to deviations and off-specification products. Two additional, albeit nontechnical, goals of this discussion are to establish rapport with the operators and to learn their language. The operators will ultimately be required to implement recommendations developed by analysts. Their confidence is essential to increase the likehhood of success. The following topics should be included in the discussion.

Our very existence is dependent on a number of metals, the most common of which is iron. Some of the more important ones are described below. As essential elements, the beneficial and adverse effects of these metals have been carefully studied and recommendations developed on daily intake. These recommendations are generally very broad and can vary depending on age - child or adult, young or old - or during pregnancy. The recommended daily intakes quoted below are for adults. The development, validation, and application of TEFs have been reviewed regularly since 1984 by Safe [25,36,37]. The limitations of this approach have been identified [38]. To assess the relative potencies and to derive consensus on TEFs for PCDDs, PCDFs, and dioxin-like PCBs, the WHO-European Centre for Environmental and Health (WHO-ECEH) and the International Program on Chemical Safety (IPCS) have initiated a project and published their interim report [39]. The most important limitations, namely possible synergism or antagonism among dioxins and its stereo isomers and the lack of pharmacokinetic consideration, have been addressed in this report. USEPA researchers [40] showed that the relative potency of PCBs, PCDFs, and 2,3,7,8-TCDD is tissue specific and thus estimates of TEFs based on hepatic EROD activity is limited. Additionally, limitations of TEFs based on mammalian models to aquatic species have been demonstrated [41]. The international initiative on TEFs has recognized these pitfalls and recommended development of TEFs for fish and other wildlife. 

Because there is evidence that aerosols are more toxic than vapors, the subcommittee recommends development of an analytic method to distinguish between aerosol and vapor exposures in occupational settings. 

Globally, apart from many national frameworks, various international initiatives have been founded, aimed at the prevention of, and coping with, possible bioterrorism scenarios. In 2006, the U.N.
