Induced investment

Via screening the collected foundation pit accident cases, we figure out the amount of safety accidents triggered by quality accidents, as shown in Table 10. It reveals that investment accidents triggered by quality accidents in foundation pit engineering mainly presented as cost claim. The risk factors that induce investment accidents mainly come from exploration and... [Pg.407]

Functional Restrictions. The focus is on the industrial investor (and innovator) and his strategic behaviour under conditions of rivalry, whereby the causes and effects of macro-economic, demand side induced investment are neglected. Here, the word induced implies either induced by temporary macro-economic effects, such as differences between aggregate saving S(Yf) and aggregate investment I (Y ) or induced by temporary disequilibria on the demand side, such as differences between successive levels of total consumption Q - Q 1 or total income Y - Y i. [Pg.143]

An additional reason for investing resources in error reduction measures is to improve the ability of the industry to conform to regulatory standards. It is likely that as the relationship between hximan error and safety becomes more widely recognized, regulatory authorities will place more emphasis on the reduction of error-inducing conditions in plants. It is therefore important that the Chemical Process Industries take the lead in developing a systematic approach and a defensible position in this area. [Pg.12]

There is an important feedback factor which cannot be properly evaluated at this time. It concerns future municipal investment in a specific waste control system. This could result in legislation controlling the input of important potential waste materials to the municipality. For example large capital investment in a heat/energy recovery system based on incineration might induce legislative restrictions on low calorific materials like metals and glass. [Pg.104]

It induces purposeful change and maximizes the return on the investment in learning. This is achieved by applying methods such as helping the mentee to analyse and reflect on what happened and to compare this to what was intended. This, in turn, equips individuals with the ability to learn how to learn, a skill that will prove forever useful. [Pg.18]

A well-known example of adsorbate induced surface reconstruction is that of carbon on the (100) surface of nickel. Even though this surface already offers a four-fold coordination to the carbon atom in unreconstructed form, additional energy is gained by the so-called clock-anti-dock reconstruction shown in Fig. 5.8. Of course, it costs energy to rearrange the surface nickel atoms, but this investment is more than compensated by... [Pg.173]

Subsequent studies have confirmed that the reason for this discrepancy is that the rat is able to rapidly metabolise P-carotene to retinol in the intestine, through the action of intestinal dioxygenase. In contrast humans absorb P-carotene systemically such that plasma levels of P-carotene increase to levels not found in the rodent. A more appropriate animal model is the ferret, which shows a similar metabolism to humans. High levels of plasma P-carotene in the ferret induce the cellular transcription factors c-fos and c-jun, and squamous metaplasia is seen in the lung with or without exposure to cigarette smoke (SCF, 2000). Even after the investment of all these resources it has not been possible for the EU Scientific Committee on Food to set an ADI. [Pg.230]

After the discovery of the combined charge and space symmetry violation, or CP violation, in the decay of neutral mesons [2], the search for the EDMs of elementary particles has become one of the fundamental problems in physics. A permanent EDM is induced by the super-weak interactions that violate both space inversion symmetry and time reversal invariance [11], Considerable experimental efforts have been invested in probing for atomic EDMs (da) induced by EDMs of the proton, neutron, and electron, and by the P,T-odd interactions between them. The best available limit for the electron EDM, de, was obtained from atomic T1 experiments [12], which established an upper limit of de < 1.6 x 10 27e-cm. The benchmark upper limit on a nuclear EDM is obtained from the atomic EDM experiment on Iyt,Hg [13] as d ig < 2.1 x 10 2 e-cm, from which the best restriction on the proton EDM, dp < 5.4 x 10 24e-cm, was also obtained by Dmitriev and Senkov [14]. The previous upper limit on the proton EDM was estimated from the molecular T1F experiments by Hinds and co-workers [15]. [Pg.241]

Capital grants, tax concessions, and other inducements are often given by governments to direct new investment to preferred locations such as areas of high unemployment. The availability of such grants can be the overriding consideration in site selection. [Pg.894]
