The environmental aspects that made the hydrogen-fueled subsonic transport plane attractive also applied to the LH2-fueled supersonic plane. Both sideline and flyover noise were expected to be lower, because, again, the plane would be considerably lighter. Sonic boom pressures would likely be lower, because of the LH2 plane s reduced weight and smaller wing area. Further pressure reductions were believed to be possible with advanced designs. 

Environment. Environmental aspects may include noise lighting housekeeping work inside versus outside fumes or vapors exhaust systems production pressures or stress created by the job, such as manual work versus office work, night work versus day work, weekend work, or long work days (12 hours). 

Special attention needs to be paid to the Control of Pollution Act 1974 that deals with the control of noise as a pollutant, in addition to the other areas of air, ground and water pollution. All possible areas and types of pollution should be identified as part of the loss control audit. Indeed, many health and safety practitioners now have the added responsibility to provide advice on environmental matters. 

The environmental impact of a dredging and land reclamation project has been discussed in a general matter only in this Manual. Issues involved are fines content of discharge water, turbidity around the dredger, noise generation, impact on fauna and flora. For more information, reference is made to specialized literature such as Bray 2008, Environmental aspects of dredging. 

The process related to the paint shop does not impose a significant pollution load on the environment compared to many other industrial activities. It is, however, essential that all possible aspects of environmental pollution by wastewater, environmental hydrology, environmental hydraulics and pneumatics, air, solid waste, noise and hazardous wastes etc. are reviewed to control any kind of pollution within the prescribed limits. Otherwise subsequent tragedies, if caused by environmental negligence in the industrial processes, may lead to the formation of stricter environmental laws. 

Discussions and interviews with the task experts can be supplemented with observations of their actual performance, for example, taking notes on certain aspects of the task or taking video or audio recordings. Observational techniques can reveal information that may be difficult to acquire in any other way. Detailed physical task performance data can be recorded, and major environmental influences (e.g., noise, light, interruptions) can all be faithfully represented. Observations can also provide an insight into the way that the team members communicate, allocate job responsibilities, and make use of operating procedures and other resources. 

As informed Dr. A.I. Korableva from Institute for Environmental Management and Ecology under the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the report "Environmental impact of automobile transport by example of Dnepropetrovsk", Dnepropetrovsk with its annual discharge of air pollutants of 177,000 t (as of 1996) is among the worst affected cities in Ukraine. In these, the automobile transport was found to be responsible for at least 30 % of the total emissions which are 15 times the maximum permissible level. Aside from the dust, chemical, photochemical and noise pollution, there is the aspect of street washout of automobile-related pollutants into the River Dnieper. The measured annual receipts of lead, particulates and petroleum derivatives via rainwater and thaw water to the river are 0.45, 80,000+ and 1.8+ t respectively. The actual levels of petroleum derivatives in storm water sometimes were 206 times the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) for the fishery basins. At 34 km downstream from the city, the estimated levels of petroleum derivatives and particulates are 61 and 10.8 times the respective MPCs. The airborne lead is mainly accumulated in the soil of housing areas.

The readers are referred to new references (46-49) and US governmental reports (50-59) for modem site remediation technologies. For completion of a successful site remediation project, all aspects of environmental pollution control (air, noise, water, and soil) must be considered. Oxidation chemically converts hazardous contaminants to non-hazardous or less toxic compounds that are more stable, less mobile, and/or inert. The oxidizing agents most commonly used are ozone, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorites, chlorine, and chlorine dioxide (46,47). Figme 3 shows a typical chemical oxidation system for site remediation. 

The main apparent technical problems posed in relation with these types of potential noise barriers would be their noise abatement capability, structural performance, fire resistance, weatherability, chemical activity, and environmental effects. To assess the quality of new products of such materials, a series of mechanical, noise abatement, and flammability tests should be performed on a number of samples from the panels made of recycled rubber products. The primary function of these panels, i.e., their noise abatement capability is among the most important aspect of their performance. 

Environmental Considerations Environmental considerations are continuing to be an increasingly important aspect of dryer design and operation as environmental regulations are tightened. The primary environmental problems associated with drying are particulate and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Noise can be an issue with certain dryer types. 

The characteristic modular construction of fuel cells is of utmost importance. With a number of standard type cells, coupled to each other in series or in parallel, almost every desired combination of voltage and capacity can be realized. One of the more attractive aspects of the fuel cell compared to more conventional methods of electricity generation is its environmental impact the fuel cell produces less waste, a lower level of emissions and almost no noise. 

The 1983 Federal Law on Environmental Protection deals mainly with the effect of chemicals on the environment and on humans via the environment. The Law is implemented through various Ordinances dealing with specific aspects of environmental protection, such as air and soil pollution, waste disposal, noise and radiation. The 1986 Ordinance on Environmentally Hazardous Substances (OEHS) requires the measures discussed below. 

Everything that makes a task more attention-demanding makes it more effortful. A task can also become very effortful if the task performer is very tired, works under conditions of extreme environmental noise, has been deprived of sleep, and so on. We believe that these two aspects of effort become manifest in different ways and in different psychophysiological indices and as a consequence should also be measured and approached in different ways. 

Life-cycle assessment when carried ont according to the ISO rules has shown its ability to deliver data for certain more global environmental compartments like the impact potential on saving of resonrces, global warming potential, acidification, ozone depletion, and the like. It nsnally does not cover local effects such as noise or smell and hazardons snbstances. Here risk assessment or other methodologies are needed. The evalnation of effects regarding human toxicity is hampered by a lack of sufficient data and by a still undecided question of data evaluation. Thns, life-cycle analysis is a nseful tool but not the only answer to all enviromnental aspects. 

First, a general description of the positive aspects of the chemical industry was given by using examples of essential products that this sector provides, such as detergents, paint, gasoline, and medicine. Examples of negative aspects were environmental damage, and noise. The main characteristics of these risks were then explained tire, explosion, and toxic clouds. 

The OPCW Health and Safety Office will give attention not only to chemical hazards, but to any hazard which a working environment may present to OPCW persoimel. The dangers of explosives in working areas, including unexploded ordnance, may be a particular hazard to OPCW personnel, and must receive attention in the health and safety plan for any activity. Attention will also be given to aspects such as radiation, noise, dust, mechanical, electrical and environmental hazards, the use of pressure vessels and lasers, etc. 

Concerning the environmental impact, toxicity, air pollution, water pollution and soil pollution are to evaluate, but also effects on the environment like Greenhouse effect, destruction of the ozon layer, disturbances by odour or noise and residues from processes are to take into account. These effects are very complex and evaluation or weighting is rather difficult. Some aspects of the environmental impact are discussed below. 

Workspace and environmental factors include system design recommendations relating to the aspects of the physical workspace and work environment that impact operator workload, such as interface and display design and noise, temperature, and ambience.
