When a fan is placed at the end of a system so that most of the system pressure drop is on the suction side of the fan, it is commonly called an exhaust fan or an exhauster. This term may also be appHed to a ventilating fan where the primary function is to exhaust air from a room or an open hood.

Detergent Applications. The primary function of FWAs in the laundry process is to whiten fabric load and maintain the original appearance of the white, laundered articles. Laundering is characterized by repeated appHcation to the same item. Fluorescent whiteners used in this repetitive process have to compensate for the reduction in whiteness and contribute toward prolongation of the usefiil life of the textile material. 

Protective Coatings. The primary function of interior can coatings is to prevent interaction between the can and its contents. Exterior can coatings maybe used to provide protection against the environment, or as decoration to give product identity as well as protection.

In separation, the primary function of the geotextde is to prevent intmsion of one material into another in order to prevent contamination of either material by the other. In the case of an aggregate being placed over a firm foundation sod, the purpose is to maintain the drainage integrity of the aggregate wad apphcation is similar. In landfdl appHcation, the purpose is to prevent intmsion of waste material into the leachette codector system. 

Even though separation may not be the primary function for which the geotextde is instaded, in almost every case the geotextde does perform as a separator. For the separation function, the physical properties of concern are primarily strength-related, including wide width, puncture resistance, and tear resistance. 

Shampoo Additives. Although the primary function of a shampoo is for cleansing, a number of additives are kicluded ki thek formulation to enhance and improve properties of the product. 

Although some of these stabilizers are added specifically to react with evolved hydrogen chloride, when the primary function of the stabilizer is to repair defect sites or dismpt autoxidation reactions, the degree that these stabilizers react with hydrogen chloride can actually detract from their primary function necessitating the use of higher levels of stabilizers ia the PVC formulation.

The color and effect produced by NGR stains and any stain mixture depend on several factors other than the colors or type of dyes used. At 65—71°C and in the presence of water, it dehydrates and decomposes into hydroxyapatite and acidic monocalcium phosphate, or a free phosphoric acid (18). It is used to some extent in cake mixes in combination with faster acting acid. Its primary function is to provide acidity late in the baking cycle and thus produce a neutral and palatable product. DPD has an NV of 33. It provides sufficient acidity only in products requiring long baking times. 

Hydrolysis. The primary functions of hydrolysis are to remove some of the acetyl groups from the cellulose triester and to reduce or remove the combined acid sulfate ester to improve the thermal stabiUty of the acetate.

Powder Blending. Cosmetic powders serve two primary functions. One group, commonly called body powders or talcs, is appHed to the skin to provide lubricity and to absorb excessive moisture. The second group, commonly referred to as face powders, exists in both loose and compressed forms and is used to impart some color to the skin and to dull excessive oiliness.

Sodium bicarbonate has a lower solubiUty than sodium carbonate, and it can be readily crystallized. The primary function of crystallization in this process is separation a high percentage of sodium bicarbonate is soHdified in a form that makes subsequent separation of the crystals from the mother hquor economical. With the available pressure drop across filters that separate Hquid and soHd, the capacity of the process is determined by the rate at which hquor flows through the filter cake. That rate is set by the crystal size distribution produced in the crystallizer.
