Making demands

The Wickens model suggests that there are finite information-processing or attentional resources available, as represented by the box in Figure 2.2. These resources can be distributed in different ways but cannot be increased. Thus, interpretation of complex or unusual information displayed by the interface will leave fewer resources available for handling the response selection and decision making demands. This provides a theoretical basis for the view of human error described in Section 1.7, which described error as a mismatch between demands and capabilities. 

Reactive Loads Make demands on electrical system but yield no useful work.

The low concentrations of free sterols in ocean waters require that large volumes of seawater are extracted in order to decrease the detection limit for FID detection. The structural similarity of the sterol compounds found in seawater makes demands on the chromatographic separations and identification, which may only be reasonably met with the use of the GC—MS systems (e.g. Gagosian and co-workers Saliot and co-workers). 

A final recommendation is to take particular care in the use of language. The need, when explaining chemistry, to shift between the everyday and the theoretical molecular levels of description will always be with us, and will make demands on learners so it is important to clearly signpost the transitions, and make sure that we model the way chemists use molecular notions to explain macroscopic phenomena which have distinctly different features (for example, see Taber, 2002).

The proponents of green chemistry recognize another contribution to waste and pollution the role of energy in a chemical process. All requirements of energy make demands on the environment, either through the requirement of fuel or the impact of the exhaust on the atmosphere. Ideally, all procedures should take place without the need to heat and, even more expensively and destructively, cool. 

It is also important to be accessible to patients to be willing to address their concerns before and after their UFE procedure. This requires a commitment on the part of an interventional radiology service because these patients do ask questions and do make demands on staff. A Stakeholder of a system is a person or organization, who has a potential interest on the future system and therefore normally makes demands on the system. In doing so, one person can represent the interest of several persons or organizations, that means one person can assume more than one role.
