Great care has to be taken in the preparation of pentazole compounds. Pentazoles are extremely sensitive toward shock, friction, temperature, light, and electrostatic impact. This is true even for the most stable pentazoles, while less stable pentazoles like />-nitrophenylpentazole exploded at every attempt at their isolation. Several explosions of pentazoles without apparent reason have also been reported, especially for large-scale preparations. Thus appropriate safety measures (protection of face, ears, body, and hands) have to be taken at all times during these reactions. The smallest possible amounts should be used <1994HOLJ796>. [Pg.753]

Figure 3 shows an RTD protective well and terminal head. The well protects the RTD from damage by the gas or liquid being measured. Protecting wells are normally made of stainless steel, carbon steel, Inconel, or cast iron, and they are used for temperatures up to 1100°C. [Pg.22]

In performing the assay or test procedures in the Codex, safe laboratory practices must be followed. This includes the use of precautionary measures, protective equipment, and work practices consistent with the chemicals and procedures used. Before undertaking any assay or procedures described in this compendium, the individual should be aware of the hazards associated with the chemicals and of the procedures and means of protecting against them. Material Safety Data Sheets, which contain precautionary information related to safety and health concerns, are available from manufacturers and distributors of many chemicals and should provide helpful information about the safe use of such chemicals. [Pg.5]

It is advisable to handle polysulphide polymers in adequately ventilated environments because under conditions of intensive exposure they may cause nasal irritation. As a precautionary measure protective gloves based on nitrile or latex rubber should be used and repeated contact with the skin should be avoided. The use of safety goggles and face shields is also recommended. [Pg.181]

Correspondingly, this work had a proactive component to it. Much of the work within the DoD core research program addressed the question, Is the current US military medical treatment doctrine, as well as physical protective measures (protective masks, clothing, and support systems), adequate to protect soldiers in future deployments from effects of exposure to low-levels of CW agents (GAO/NSIAD, 1998). [Pg.73]

For all atoms located within the a helices of hPrP, the resonances show the expected downfield shifts relative to the random coil values, but smaller values of A5( C ) indicate for the C-terminal two turns of each of the helices 2 and 3 that the a-helical structure is in equilibrium with unfolded forms of the polypeptide. This was corroborated by the observation that all amide protons in the hydrogen bonds of the helices 2 and 3 were measurably protected against exchange, except for the residues 187-194 in helix 2, and the residues 225-228 in helix 3 (Zahn et al., 2000). [Pg.72]

Scaffolding and safe channel has no protective measures, protection is not in a safe state. [Pg.786]

In depth defensive measures should be incorporated into the design and operating procedures for radiation sources to compensate for potential failures in protection and safety measures. Protection and safety should be ensured by sound management and good engineering, quality assurance, training and qualification of personnel, comprehensive safety assessments and attention to lessons learned from experience and research. [Pg.79]

Design requirements are identified where associated with the provision of the safety measures protecting against each fault condition - these are design requirements for safety during fault conditions. [Pg.75]

The third and final force was the law. Throughout the nineteenth century, courts in England and the United States refused to hold urban water providers, whether publicly or privately owned, liable for any harm that might have resulted from the use of lead water pipes. Because the courts held homeowners liable for damages, there were limited incentives for public water providers to adopt measures protecting consumers from lead exposure related to service pipes, and household plumbing more generally (see chapter 7). [Pg.202]

AR percentage reduction in risk. This is the degree to which the security measure protects against a terrorist attack. If a security device will foil every threat, then the risk reduction is 100%. [Pg.410]

At field level, the work of the protection clusters has focused on three elements first, the delivery of goods and services which have a specific and measurable protection outcome, e.g. mine action, legal aid to restore properly, the removal of... [Pg.247]

Several immune function assays measuring lymphocyte proliferation and antibody production to experimental antigens have been developed as surrogates for measuring protective immune responses. Mice exposed to carbon dust inhalation (2-4 mg/m ) had a decreased number of antibody-forming cells in the spleen that was proportional to exposure time (64). In local mediastinal lymph nodes... [Pg.640]
