If you have installed MAPI (mail application interface) software on your PC, you may exploit the MS-WINDOWS mailslot-function to e-mail NMR data directly to and from your PC. The full version of ID-WIN-NMR allows you to export/irnport FlDs, spectra, tables, text-files, relaxation data and metafiles to/from other users of (the full version of) ID WIN-NMR. Both JCAMP-DX5 and Bruker specific binary format are supported. Compared to the procedure outlined in section 2.6.5 this is an even more convenient way for exporting/importing NMR data via Internet. Applications interfacing with electronic reading components such as barcode or microchip readers must be validated fully before they are used in the same way as any other application. The barcode for an item may be incorporated into the artwork of the packaging for the item in a standardized format (e.g., ISO/EAN). Validation should include the use of barcode reading components.

Until now, our approach to model-driven wrapper development deals with tools and applications offering COM interfaces. Conceptually, COM is a component technology following the object-oriented paradigm. COM components represent subsystems, i.e. a set of classes including attribute and method definitions, relationships between classes, and a set of interfaces to access the subsystem. COM offers an external description of application interfaces by means of a type library. From an application in use, access to the product data tuid methods of a CAD system is provided through application interfaces. In the course of using a CAD system through a standendized interface, the integration of such an external application interface becomes increasingly important. Standardized application interfaces allow access to the methods employed by the vruious CAD systems.

The wireless trend for medical information systems (ISs) and ITs has also moved beyond just mobile phones. For example, ambulances in Sweden have been equipped with mobile computing, wireless networks, and GPS. While in transit, patient vitals and the ambulance s GPS coordinates can be sent to the hospital, providing real-time status updates. Finland has set up a network where patient records, health consulting, and prescriptions can all be accessed by authorized individuals wirelessly on connected devices (Wu et al. 2007). While these advances are a net benefit for healthcare, there still exist hurdles that need to be considered, including how to best design and implement the mobile user applications interfaces. 

In any technological application interfaces play an important role, e.g. the electrolyte-electrode interfaces in batteries or fuel-cells. For atomistic modelling these interfaces pose a special challenge, since the systems that have to be modelled are usually very large. In order to decrease finite-size effects, single layers of a solid and a liquid phase at an interfaee are often not sufficient. Therefore, the number of studies dealing with two-phase systems is smaller than those that investigate one phase only.

It also has been proven that offering task-relevant information in the same space as where actions take place leads to increased performance [6]. This suggests a merging of the user interface (task relevant information) and the device (where action take place). In other words a merging of (1) the action, (2) the perception and (3) the interaction spaces. This merger would ensure that the user attention is at the same time on what s/he is doing, where feedback will be experienced and where the application interface is displayed to her/him. All these happen to be on the same point. In comparison, with a screen-keyboard-mouse user interface, there is a separation between these spaces, given by the physical separation of input and output devices.
