0,7-Unsaturated acids

Amino-aromatic carboxylic acids Unsaturated aromatic acid... [Pg.328]

Concentrated sulphuric acid. The paraffin hydrocarbons, cych-paraffins, the less readily sulphonated aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, xylenes, etc.) and their halogen derivatives, and the diaryl ethers are generally insoluble in cold concentrated sulphuric acid. Unsaturated hydrocarbons, certain polyalkylated aromatic hydrocarbons (such as mesitylene) and most oxygen-containing compounds are soluble in the cold acid. [Pg.1049]

Vatty Acids andFattyAcidLsters. Sulfolane exhibits selective solvency for fatty acids and fatty acid esters which depends on the molecular weight and degree of fatty acid unsaturation (40—42). AppHcations for this process are enriching the unsaturation level in animal and vegetable fatty oHs to provide products with better properties for use in paint, synthetic resins, food products, plastics, and soaps. [Pg.69]

Alkyds. Alkyd resins (qv) are polyesters formed by the reaction of polybasic acids, unsaturated fatty acids, and polyhydric alcohols (see Alcohols, POLYHYDRic). Modified alkyds are made when epoxy, sUicone, urethane, or vinyl resins take part in this reaction. The resins cross-link by reaction with oxygen in the air, and carboxylate salts of cobalt, chromium, manganese, zinc, or zirconium are included in the formulation to catalyze drying. [Pg.365]

Diallyl phthalate (see also Section 25.3) has also been used as a laminating resin but because of its higher price it has been largely replaced by the glycol-saturated acid-unsaturated aeid polyesters. [Pg.709]

Alkenes see also Alicyclic Compounds, Unsaturated Acids, Unsaturated Alcohols, etc.)... [Pg.1648]

A number of amide- and ester-linked fatty acids and (/ )-3-hydroxy acids are components of the lipid A part in the LPS from Gram-negative bacteria. The acids have been tabulatedand the chemistry of lipid A summarized. The most common acids in lipid A from Enterobacteriaceae are the saturated 12 0,14 0, and 16 0, and the (/ )-3-hydroxy-14 0, The last is linked to N-2 and 0-3 of the 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-glucopyranosyl residues, and the others are ester-linked to the hydroxy acid, as in the lipid A (44) of Salmonella minnesota. Other linear and branched fatty acids, unsaturated acids, S)-2- and (/ )-3-hydroxy acids, and 3-oxotetradecanoic acid are components of lipid A from certain different species. In the lipid A from Rhizobium trifolii, 2,7-dihydroxyoctanoic acid is linked as amide to a 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-gl ucopy ranosy 1 residue. ... [Pg.308]

Saturated triglyceride -made using saturated acid Unsaturated triglyceride -made using unsaturated acid... [Pg.647]

At first glance the relationship between fullerene solubility and fatty acids unsaturation may appear as a surprise. However, it should be noticed that the unsaturation level of vegetable oils correlates also with their refractive index (Martinenghi, 1963). Thus, following the approach of Sivaraman et al. (1994), it is possible to show the change in solubility as function of the polarizability parameter of the solvent defined as ... [Pg.329]

N.K. Afseth, J.R Wold and V.H. Segtnan, The potential of Raman spectroscopy for characterization of the fatty acid unsaturation of salmon. Anal. Chim. Acta, 572, 85-92 (2006). [Pg.238]

Alkyds were synthesized by Kienle in the 1920s from trifunctional alcohols and dicar-boxylic acids. Unsaturated oils, called drying oils, were transesterified with the phthalic anhydride in the reaction so that an unsaturated polymer was obtained which could later be reacted producing a cross-linked product. [Pg.96]

The hydrogenation step following hydroformylation serves two important purposes. It reduces the aldehyde intermediate product to the desired primary alcohol functional group, which is the primary site of reactivity of the polyol with isocyanates. It also reduces the residual olefins in the FAMEs to saturated hydrocarbons, thus eliminating the pathway to Hock degradation and odor development, which is inherent to other processes that leave fatty acid unsaturation in the polyols. This step eliminates the typical vegetable oil odor from the final namral oil polyols of this process. [Pg.342]

On the other hand, as synthetic equivalents of amino acids, unsaturated oxazolones are and will continue to be very important intermediates for the synthesis of new non-proteinogenic a-amino acids, particularly for the asymmetric synthesis of these compounds using diastereo- or enantioselective methodologies. In addition, the exocyclic double bond will continue as an important focus to build new constrained amino acids for the design of peptides with improved properties. [Pg.287]

A variety of dicarboxylic acids have been measured in air, including, for example, oxalic acid [(COOH)2], succinic acid [HOOCCH2CH2COOH], and malonic acid [HOOCCH2COOH], as well as larger straight-and branched-chain carboxylic acids unsaturated and aromatic acids such as phthalic acid are also observed in smaller concentrations (e.g., see Kawamura et al., 1996a, 1996b). Because of their lower vapor pressures, they are found predominantly in particles (see Chapter 9). [Pg.327]

Cycloalkanes with carboxyl substituents are named as cycloalkanecar-boxylic acids. Unsaturated acids are named using the name of the alkene with -e replaced with -oic acid. The chain is numbered starting with the carboxyl group, a number designates the location of the double bond and Z or E is used. [Pg.90]

We focus first on the pathway of fatty acid synthesis, then turn our attention to regulation of the pathway and to the biosynthesis of longer-chain fatty acids, unsaturated fatty acids, and their eicosanoid derivatives. [Pg.787]

However, the alcohol and acid formed during the hydrolysis of nitric esters are accompanied by a range of other compounds such as aldehydes, ketones, hydroxy-carboxylic acids, unsaturated hydrocarbons, nitrous add, etc. (e.g. reference [107]). [Pg.7]
