Absence

Both vapor-liquid flash calculations are implemented by the FORTRAN IV subroutine FLASH, which is described and listed in Appendix F. This subroutine can accept vapor and liquid feed streams simultaneously. It provides for input of estimates of vaporization, vapor and liquid compositions, and, for the adiabatic calculation, temperature, but makes its own initial estimates as specified above in the absence (0 values) of the external estimates. No cases have been encountered in which convergence is not achieved from internal initial estimates. [Pg.122]

Four possible arrangements can be considered a. Complete conversion of both feeds. Figure 4.7a shows the most desirable arrangement complete conversion of the decane and chlorine in the reactor. The absence of reactants in the reactor effluent means that no recycles are needed. [Pg.102]

If the problem in the absence of significant constraints can be decoupled in this way, there must be some mechanism which allows this, and that mechanism should be explored. [Pg.144]

Cobali [[) oxide, CoO. Olive green solid (heat on Co(OH)2 or cobalt(Il) oxyacid salt in absence of air) with NaCl structure. [Pg.104]

C. Excreted in the urine in the rare hereditary disease alkaptonuria. Homogentisic acid is easily oxidized in the air to dark-coloured polymeric products, so that urine from patients with alkaptonuria turns gradually black. It is formed from tyrosine and is an intermediate in tyrosine breakdown in the body. Alkaptonuria is due to the absence of the liver enzyme which cleaves the aromatic ring. [Pg.205]

Hydroxide Fe(OH)3 (Fe + plus OH ) has definite existence and there are many ill-deiined hydrates used as pigments. FeOOH has two forms goethite and lepidocrocite. Colloidal Fe(OH)3 is easily obtained as a deep red sol. Many Fe(III) hydroxy complexes are known. Fe(OH)2 may be formed from Fe and OH" in the absence of O2 but it is very readily oxidized. [Pg.223]

Pasteur effect Yeast and other cells can break down sugar in the presence of oxygen (eventually to CO2 and H2O) or in its absence (to CO2 and ethanol). The decomposition of sugar is often greater in the absence of oxygen than in its presence, i.e. the Pasteur effect. With oxygen, less toxic products (alcohol) are produced and the breakdown is more efficient in terms of energy production. [Pg.297]

When it comes to the heaviest of petroieum fractions, modern analytical methods are not able to isolate and characterize the molecules completely. In the absence of something better, the analyst separates the heavy fractions into different categories, which leads merely to definitions that are workable but are no longer in terms of exact structure. [Pg.13]

Mass spectrometry allows analysis by hydrocarbon family for a variety of petroleum cuts as deep as vacuum distillates since we have seen that the molecules must be vaporized. The study of vacuum residues can be conducted by a method of direct introduction which we will address only briefly because the quantitative aspects are ek r metiy difficult to master. Table 3.6 gives some examples the matrices used differ according to the distillation cut and the chemical content such as the presence or absence of olefins or sulfur. [Pg.50]

In the absence of a single accurate theory representing the physical reality of liquids and gases and, consequently, all their physical properties, a property can be calculated in various ways. [Pg.106]

Finally, there are some limits regarding LPG fuels butadiene content (0.5 wt. % maximum, ISO 7941), the absence of hydrogen sulfide (ISO 8819) and copper strip corrosion (class 1, ISO 6251) which are not usually problems for the refiner. [Pg.230]

Ei ivironrr lent Absence of toxic compounds such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB s)... [Pg.282]

These reactions can explain the absence of olefins in crude oil, their presence being detected only in the crudes of low sulfur content. The sulfur content in crude from Bradford which is the one of the rare crudes containing olefins is about 0.4%. [Pg.321]

Introduction and Commercial Application JUe objective of performing appraisal activities on discovered accumulations is to reduce the uncertainty in the description of the hydrocarbon reservoir, and to provide information with which to make a decision on the next action. The next action may be, for example, to undertake more appraisal, to commence development, to stop activities, or to sell the prospect. In any case, the appraisal activity should lead to a decision which yields a greater value than the outcome of a decision made in the absence of the information from the appraisal. The improvement in the value of the action, given the appraisal information, should be greater than the cost of the appraisal activities, otherwise the appraisal effort is not worthwhile. [Pg.173]

The number of injectors required may be estimated in a similar manner, but it is unlikely that the exploration and appraisal activities will have included injectivity tests, of say water injection into the water column of the reservoir. In this case, an estimate must be made of the injection potential, based on an assessment of reservoir quality in the water column, which may be reduced by the effects of compaction and diagenesis. Development plans based on water injection or natural aquifer drive often suffer from lack of data from the water bearing part of the reservoir, since appraisal activity to establish the reservoir properties in the water column is frequently overlooked. In the absence of any data, a range of assumptions of injectivity should be generated, to yield a range of number of wells required. If this range introduces large uncertainties into the development plan, then appraisal effort to reduce this uncertainty may be justified. [Pg.214]

The capital cost estimates are generated by the Engineering function, often based on 50/50 estimates (equal probability of cost overrun and underrun). It is recommended that the operating expenditure is estimated based on the specific activities estimated during the field lifetime (e.g. number of workovers, number of replacement items, cost of forecast manpower requirements). In the absence of this detail it is common, though often inaccurate, to assume that the opex will be composed of two elements fixed opex and variable opex. [Pg.308]

The analysis of the test results shows that non-defect adhesive joints of the carbon plastic are acoustically less active than the glued main material. This can be explained by absence of plasticization effect of the die (adhesive layer). The value of the breaking point ("C ) at the adhesive joints shift is 9,6 M Pa. [Pg.85]

Calculations of mutual locations of poles and zeros for these TF models allow to trace dynamics of moving of the parameters (poles and zeros) under increasing loads. Their location regarding to the unit circle could be used for prediction of stability of the system (material behavior) or the process stationary state (absence of AE burst ) [7]. [Pg.192]
