Stripping steam, absence

No or low Delta P in a tower section may indicate missing trays or absence of liquid. High Delta P in a tower section may indicate that the drawoff is partially restricted or blocked, that may be due to high liquid rates in that section of the tower, flooding, or too much stripping steam. 

The final solution should be checked for absence of free cyanide. The hypochlorite or CI2 + NaOH method is by far the most widely used commercially (45). However, other methods are oxidation to cyanate using hydrogen peroxide, o2one, permanganate, or chlorite electrolysis to CO2, NH, and cyanate hydrolysis at elevated temperatures to NH and salts of formic acid air or steam stripping at low pH biological decomposition to CO2 and N2 chromium... 

Uses of Oldershaw columns to less conventional systems and applications were described by Fair, Reeves, and Seibert [Topical Conference on Distillation, AIChE Spring Meeting, New Orleans, p. 27 (March 10-14, 2002)]. The applications described include scale-up in the absence of good VLE, steam stripping efficiencies, individual component efficiencies in multicomponent distillation, determining component behavior in azeotropic separation, and foam testing. 

The choice between the absence and availability of liquid flow from one two-section column into the other and the determination of optimal flow rate are performed using the same method. Such optimization simultaneously concerns the distillation column and the system of heat exchangers. As a result of such optimization in different two-section columns entering into the column with side strippings, it turns out to be profitable to use the different modification (reboilers or steam stripping, availability or absence of liquid flow between columns) (Fig. 7.16).
