Olive Green

Cobali [[) oxide, CoO. Olive green solid (heat on Co(OH)2 or cobalt(Il) oxyacid salt in absence of air) with NaCl structure.

Interesting note, using CuCk for the first time.. NO OLIVE GREEN color appeared. Stayed slightly yellow -dark brown... All the way through the rxn. Never came close to Green (light, dark or olive). When rxn finished solution was very dark reddish-brown, even when acid washed it stayed dark reddish brown. 

The only oxide formed by any of these metals in the divalent state is CoO this is prepared as an olive-green powder by strongly heating the metal in air or steam, or alternatively by heating...

To a solution of hexa hydrated aluminum chloride (1.99g, 8.28 mmol, 1.0 equiv.) in tetrahydrofuran (25 mL), precatalyst (R,R)-salenCo (5.0 g, 8.28 mmol, 1.0 equiv. ) was added and stirred in at open atmosphere at room temperature. As soon as the chiral Co (salen) was added color of the solution changes from brick red to dark olive green. The mixture was stirred for 1 h. The resulting solution was concentrated imder reduced pressure. The crude solid was worked up with H2O and CH2CI2. Yield = 98-99 % as a dark green solid powder. The complex have been analyzed by A1 NMR with reference to [A1(D20)6] and...

Add a little of the powdered substance (about 0.2 mg to lSwl glacial acetic acid containing 0.5% FeCl3, layer underneath with 1 ml concentrated sulfuric acid and shake. The color varies with the indole, being olive green for psilocin and red-violet for psilocybin. 

With ferric chloride solution a sample of the salt, dissolved in alcohol, gives an intense olive-green colour.
