Pigments absence

SOM application in such branches of industry as electronics, aircraft, etc. that require pure polymers with high dielectric properties or enhanced thermal stability etc. is rather problematic. SOM may be characterized by various impurities, pigmenting, absence of extreme stability etc. But they have a series of positive performance characteristics typical of silicones water repellency, thermal oxidation, radiation stabilities and many others. [Pg.582]

Hydroxide Fe(OH)3 (Fe + plus OH ) has definite existence and there are many ill-deiined hydrates used as pigments. FeOOH has two forms goethite and lepidocrocite. Colloidal Fe(OH)3 is easily obtained as a deep red sol. Many Fe(III) hydroxy complexes are known. Fe(OH)2 may be formed from Fe and OH" in the absence of O2 but it is very readily oxidized. [Pg.223]

The second process to finish phthalocyanine, which is more important for P-copper phthalocyanine, involves grinding the dry or aqueous form in a ball mill or a kneader (64). Agents such as sodium chloride, which have to be removed by boiling with water after the grinding, are used. Solvents like aromatic hydrocarbons, xylene, nitrobenzene or chlorobenzene, alcohols, ketones, or esters can be used (1). In the absence of a solvent, the cmde P-phthalocyanine is converted to the a-form (57,65) and has to be treated with a solvent to regain the P-modification. The aggregate stmcture also has an impact on the dispersion behavior of a- and P-copper phthalocyanine pigments (66). [Pg.505]

Zinc phosphate is now probably the most important pigment in anticorrosive paints. The selection of the correct binder for use with these pigments is very important and can dramatically affect their performance. Red lead is likely to accelerate the corrosion of non-ferrous metals, but calcium plumbate is unique in providing adhesion to newly galvanised surfaces in the absence of pretreatment, and is claimed to behave similarly on other metals in this group. [Pg.586]

It has been found that red lead, litharge and certain grades of metallic lead powder render water alkaline and inhibitive this observation has been confirmed by Pryor . The effect is probably due to a lead compound, e.g. lead hydroxide, in solution. Since, however, atmospheric carbon dioxide converts these lead compounds into insoluble basic lead carbonate, thereby removing the inhibitive materials from solution, these pigments may have only limited inhibitive properties in the absence of soap formation. [Pg.596]

Neuromelanin, a dark colored pigment and product of the oxidative metabolism of dopamine, is found in the cytoplasm of dopaminergic neurons of the human substantia nigra pars compacta. Neuromelanin deposits increase with age, matching the age distribution of Parkinson s disease. In the absence of significant quantities of iron, neuromelanin can act as an antioxidant in... [Pg.164]

Proopiomelanocortin (POMC) is the precursor peptide of hormones and neuropeptides expressed in the pituitary and the hypothalamus (adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), lipotropin, a-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (aMSH), yMSH, 3-endorphin, and others). The main clinical consequences of POMC deficiency are adrenal insufficiency (due to absence of ACTH), red hair pigmentation (due to absence of MSH) and severe early-onset obesity (due to the lack of aMSH). [Pg.1000]

There are two obvious differences in pigment occurrence in this taxon. The first is the absence of herbacetin derivatives in the yellow race, which suggests the apparent absence of an enzyme capable of placing oxygen at the C-8 position of the... [Pg.79]

Colorant containing annatto and Ca caseinate as carrier mixed with water to be added directly to cheese milk yielding uniform colored cheese mass Water-dispersible beadlet of p-carotene is mixed with oil to attein composition that remains stable even in presence of polyphosphates and with antioxidant action even in absence of ascorbic acid Blending carotenoid pigment and soybean fiber (wifii tomato juice) as effective ingredient for dispersion stability... [Pg.309]

Infrared spectroscopy is a major tool for polymer and rubber identification [11,12]. Infrared analysis usually suffices for identification of the plastic material provided absence of complications by interferences from heavy loadings of additives, such as pigments or fillers. As additives can impede the unambiguous assignment of a plastic, it is frequently necessary to separate the plastic from the additives. For example, heavily plasticised PVC may contain up to 60% of a plasticiser, which needs to be removed prior to attempted identification of the polymer. Also an ester plasticiser contained in a nitrile rubber may obscure identification of the polymer. Because typical rubber compounds only contain some 50% polymer direct FUR analysis rarely provides a definitive answer. It is usually necessary first... [Pg.31]

The UV method performs well in the absence of interferences of other additives or pigments but is liable to be in error owing to interference by highly absorbing impurities that may be present in the sample or in the solvent [56,57]. Commercial erucamides with variable light stability have been analysed by means of SEC-UV (254nm)/RI and UV absorption in MeOH [58]. [Pg.309]

Rhodopsin is a seven ot-helix trans-membrane protein and visual pigment of the vertebrate rod photoreceptor cells that mediate dim light vision. In this photoreceptor, retinal is the chromophore bound by opsin protein, covalently linked to Lys296 by a Schiff base linkage. Kpega et al.64 have studied NMR spectra of Schiff bases being derivatives of all-frans retinal and amino-p-cyclodextrins as a model of rhodopsin, where p-cyclodextrin plays a role of a binding pocket. On the basis of analysis of the chemical shift differences for the model compound in the presence and in the absence of adamantane carboxylate, it has been shown that the derivative of 3-amino-p-cyclodextrin forms dimer in water and retinoid is inserted into p-cyclodextrin cavity [31]. [Pg.155]
