Specialty Gases. The specialty gases are generally more reactive than the bulk gases and usually have low volume flow requirements in their appHcations. Historically, these have been deHvered almost exclusively in standard compressed gas cylinders. However, as the need for increased quantities has arisen, bulk specialty gas supply systems utilising larger ton-sized containers and tube trailers are being developed. [Pg.89]

Shipment, Storage, and Price. Butynediol, 35% solution, is available in tank cars, tank trailers, and dmms. Stainless steel, nickel, aluminum, glass, and various plastic and epoxy or phenoHc liners have ak been found satisfactory. Rubber hose is suitable for transferring. The solution is nonflammable and freezes at about —5°C. [Pg.106]

Shipment, Stora.ge, ndPrice. Butenediol is available in unlined steel tank cars, tank trailers, and various sized dmms. Because of its relatively high freezing point, tank cars are fitted with heating coils. The 1991 U.S. bulk price of technical grade butenediol was about 5.36 /kg. [Pg.107]

Shipment, Stora.ge, ndPrice. Tank cars and tank trailers, selected to prevent color formation, are of aluminum or stainless steel, or lined with epoxy or phenoHc resins dmms are lined with phenoHc resins. Flexible stainless steel hose is used for transfer. Because of butanediol s high freezing point (about 20°C) tank car coil heaters are provided. The U.S. Hst price for bulk quantities in 1991 was about 2.18/kg, but heavy discounting was prevalent for large contracts. [Pg.109]

Acetate and triacetate polymers are white amorphous soHds produced in granular, flake, powder, or fibrous form. They are used as raw materials in the preparation of fibers, films, and plastics. Polymer density varies and ranges from 100 kg/m for the fibrous form to 500 kg/m for granules. Acetate polymer is shipped by trailer tmck, railroad freight car, or multiwaH bags. [Pg.296]

Mixtures of 10 and 20% fluorine ia nitrogen or other inert gases are commercially available ia cylinders and tube trailers from Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. Blends can be safely packaged and stored at high, eg, 13.8 MPa (2000 psi), pressure. Filled with a 20% fluorine blend, tube trailers can contain up to 500 kg of fluorine. Such high pressure mixtures permit larger quantities of fluorine to be safely shipped. [Pg.130]

Sulfur hexafluoride is packaged as a Hquefted gas in DOT 3AA 2015 steel cylinders containing 52 kg. Larger quantities are available in tube trailers containing ca 11,000 kg. [Pg.242]

Storage and Shipment. VDF or HFC-1132a is stored and shipped in gas cylinders or high pressure tube trailers without polymerization inhibitor and is placarded as flammable compressed gas. Terpenes or quinones can be added to inhibit polymerization. Elf Atochem North America, Inc. and Ausimont USA, Inc. supply VDE in the United States other producers are in Japan and Europe. [Pg.385]

For distributing larger quantities of gaseous helium, argon, and occasionally neon, a number of large, horizontal, compressed gas cylinders are manifolded on tmck semitrailers (called tube trailers) or railroad cars. Like individual cylinders, these serve both as transport containers and rental storage containers. Capacities of tube trailers range from about 300 to 5,000 m (10,000—175,000 fT) of gas. [Pg.12]

The Department of Transportation classifies HCl as a corrosive material and requires that it be transported in DOT-approved deHvery vessels. Tank cars must conform to 103B, 103B-W, or DOT 111A60W5 specifications. Tank trailers must conform to DOT MC-310, MC-311, MC-312, or DOT-412 specifications with display of a corrosive placard on both sides, front, and rear of the tank. The United Nations identification number for muriatic acid is UN1789, which must appear on aH shipping papers and placards. [Pg.449]

For nearest producer, material in tank cars or trailers unless otherwise noted. Material in 0.208-m dmms. [Pg.479]

Concentrations over 8 wt % are classified as corrosive Hquids by the Department of Transportation (DOT). The Bureau of Explosives regulation (132) classifies all solutions containing 20 wt % and greater as oxidizers and corrosives. The product containers must have identifying labels (dmms) or placards (tank cars, tank trailers) indicating that the contents are an oxidizer and corrosive material, UN 2014 or UN 2015. Bills of lading must also be so identified. Tank cars and tank trailers are constmcted from high purity aluminum or 300 series stainless steel. [Pg.479]

Specifications Relating to Safety Glass RequirementsforEand Vehicles and Their Trailers, Ministere De L Equipement, Paris, 1975. [Pg.529]

Ethane usually is transported in high pressure pipelines from the point of production to the point of consumption. However, for small quantities of ethane, multitube tmnk trailers are used. [Pg.185]

Although abrasive polishing is the most common metal polishing operation, other forms of polishing and chemical brightening are used ia iadustrial operations. Aluminum tmck trailers often are cleaned and brightened by treatments with strong acids or alkaHes, which chemically remove oxides. Chemical methods can also remove tarnish from other metals (55,56). [Pg.211]

Shipment and Storage. 2-Pyrrohdinone is available in steel dmms and in aluminum or stainless-steel tank cars and tank trailers. Because of its high freezing point, bulk shipments are in tanks with heating coils. Heating with hot water rather than steam avoids product discoloration. Steel (qv), stainless steel, and aluminum are satisfactory materials for storage containers. Because 2-pyrrohdinone is hygroscopic, it must be protected from atmospheric moisture. [Pg.361]

Shipment, Stora.ge, ndPrice. l-Methyl-2-pyrrohdinone is available in tank cars or tank trailers as well as in dmms. Shipping containers are normally of unlined steel. Rubber hose is unsuitable for handling standard steel pipe or braided steel hose is acceptable. Ordinarily 1020 carbon steel (0550) is satisfactory as a storage material. Stainless-steel 304 and 316, nickel, and aluminum are also suitable. MethylpyrroHdinone is hygroscopic and must be protected from atmospheric moisture. In September 1994, NMP was Hsted at 3.89/kg. [Pg.363]

The world fleet of tmck and tmck/trailer refrigeration systems is estimated at 125,000 units, of which 30% are trailer units, 40% independent tmck units, and 30% units driven off the tmck engine. The container population is estimated at 300,000 units. Tmck and tmck/trailer units have traditionally used CFC-12 or R-502, but in the 1990s some have switched to HCFC-22 or HFCs such as R-404a and R-507. Container units have typically used R-12, but some are suppHed with HFC refrigerants such as R-134a. [Pg.69]

Self-contained, independent engine-driven plug-type units used in tmck and tmck/trailers range in capacity from 6 to 12 kW to maintain trailer temperatures of 20°C in 38°C ambients. At trailer temperatures of — 18°C in 38°C ambients, capacities range from 2—6 kW. [Pg.69]

Shipment and Storage, Specifications. A/-Vinyl-2-pyrrohdinone is available in tank cars and tank trailers and in dmms of various sizes. Shipping containers are normally steel or stainless steel. Tank cars are provided with heating coils to facihtate unloading in cold weather. Rubber, epoxy, and epoxy—phenohc coatings are attacked and must be avoided. Carbon steel has been successfully used for storage tanks, but stainless steel preserves product quahty better. Aluminum and certain phenohc coatings are also satisfactory. [Pg.523]

Technical 48% and 62% acids are colorless to light yellow Hquids available in dmms, 15,140-L tank trailers, and 37,850-L tank cars. They are classified under DOT regulations as corrosive materials. Anhydrous hydrogen bromide is available in cylinders, under its vapor pressure of approximately 2.4 MPa (350 psi) at 25°C. It is classified as a nonflammable gas. [Pg.291]

Benzyl chloride is classified by DOT as chemicals NOIBN, poisonous, corrosive and a hazardous substance (100 lbs-45.45 kg). Benzal chloride is classified as poisonous and a hazardous substance (5000 lbs-2270 kg). Benzotrichloride is classified under DOT regulation as a corrosive Hquid NOS and a hazardous substance (10 lbs-4.5 kg). The Freight Classification Chemical NOI appHes. It is shipped in lacquer-lined steel dmms and nickel-lined tank trailers. Benzal chloride is handled in a similar fashion. [Pg.60]
