Helium tank trailers

Liquid helium is shipped in bulk in special insulated tank trailers, with capacities in ex-... [Pg.393]

In recent years there have been many new developments in sophisticated vacuum-insulation systems. These new developments have revolutionized the small-container field, where cryogenic fluids, down to and including helium, are now economically stored in small quantities. In addition, the superior thermal performance of these materials has made it possible to build trailers, trucks, and railroad tank cars with a much larger capacity than would be possible with evacuated powder systems. Multilayer insulations have been readily applied to factory-fabricated vessels utilizing conventional methods, such as spiral wrapping. [Pg.46]

Gaseous helium is commonly stored in high pressure cylinders, hydril tubes, or tube trailers. Liquid helium is commonly stored at the consumer site in cryogenic liquid cylinders, portable customer stations, and specially designed insulated tanks. To minimize helium transfer... [Pg.410]

Helium gas is authorized for shipment in cylinders, tank cars, and tube trailers in accordance with DOT and TC regulations [5, 6]. Liquid helium is shipped as a cryogenic fluid in insulated cylinders, insulated portable and cargo tanks, and insulated intermodal containers. [Pg.412]

By Highway In cylinders on trucks, and in tube trailers. Liquid helium, in insulated cylinders, portable tanks, and cargo tanks. [Pg.391]

SI-4 insulation (A-7) on liquid-hydrogen and -helium storage tanks. Some loss rates reported are 2.5-3 per day loss on 150-liter vessels, per day loss on 1000-liter vessels, and 0.5 per day loss on 7800-gal trailers. They further show that the capacity of a 26,000-gal rail tank car insulated with 15 in. of perlite could be increased to 35,000 gal by using lin. of SI-4 insulation, while maintaining the same loss rate of 0.5 per day. Most of these super insulations involve the use of closely packed layers of aluminum foil radiation shielding and fiber glass paper spacers. [Pg.8]
