Increased quantities

The equilibrium constant for this reaction decreases with increase in temperature but the higher temperature is required to achieve a reasonable rate of conversion. Hydrogen chloride is now being produced in increasing quantities as a by-product in organic chlorination reactions and it is economic to re-convert this to chlorine. [Pg.318]

Specialty Gases. The specialty gases are generally more reactive than the bulk gases and usually have low volume flow requirements in their appHcations. Historically, these have been deHvered almost exclusively in standard compressed gas cylinders. However, as the need for increased quantities has arisen, bulk specialty gas supply systems utilising larger ton-sized containers and tube trailers are being developed. [Pg.89]

ElexibiHty allows the operator to pick and choose the most attractive feedstock available at a given point in time. The steam-cracking process produces not only ethylene, but other products as weU, such as propylene, butadiene, butylenes (a mixture of monounsaturated C-4 hydrocarbons), aromatics, etc. With ethane feedstock, only minimal quantities of other products ate produced. As the feedstocks become heavier (ie, as measured by higher molecular weights and boiling points), increasing quantities of other products are produced. The values of these other coproduced products affect the economic attractiveness and hence the choice of feedstock. [Pg.171]

Shredding operations may also include apphances (white goods) which are being recycled in increasing quantities at least partiy because of the banning of apphances from landfills in many states. The recycling rate for apphances in 1994 was 70% compared to 62% in 1993 when 1.4 million t of ferrous scrap was recovered from 36 million apphances. The recycling rate was 55% in 1992 (10,11). [Pg.553]

Cobalt. There is no U.S. mine production of cobalt. Refining of imported nickel—cobalt mattes has not occurred since the mid-1980s. About 1600 t of secondary cobalt was recycled from scrap by 13 faciUties in the United States representing - 22% of total U.S. consumption. The price of the metal was around 44/kg. Most is imported from Zaire and Zambia. Increasing quantities are coming from Russia. Historically, the price of cobalt has been quite volatile and dependent on the pohtical environment in those countries. Cobalt is used in superaHoys, 40% catalysts, 14% paint driers, 11% magnetic alloys, 10% and cemented carbides and other uses, 16%. [Pg.565]

Solid Wastes and Biomass Large and increasing quantities of solid wastes are a significant feature of affluent societies. In the United States in 1993 the rate was about 1.8 kg (4 lb) per capita per day or nearly 190 Tg (2.07 X 10 U.S. tons) per year, but the growth rate has slowed in recent years as recycling efforts have increased. Table 27-4 shows that the composition of miscellaneous refuse is surprisingly uniform, but size and moisture variations cause major difficulties in efficient, economical disposal. [Pg.2361]

Having wide and increasing quantity of RP HPLC sorbents in disposal the main question in RP HPLC is their interchangeability. Column chai acteristics that ai e usually described by their manufacturers are not full enough for the analytic to choose a suitable column for the specified resolutions or he ought to choose other similar column used before. In fact, nomenclature of reversed-phase stationai y phases is too unsophisticated and is a source of confusion in their application. [Pg.131]

A client may choose to develop a toller who is qualified, but will need additional or improved equipment and technology to meet the eventual production levels required later in the life of the toll contract. The client may require the toller to make changes or modifications at their plant in order to effectively manufacture a particular product in increasing quantity. Some areas of concern applicable to scale up were listed in Various Points to Consider, Section 3.1. Additional considerations to address in the contract may include ... [Pg.57]

The success of filler polymers used in increasing quantities in PVC technology paste can be considered as an extension of this principle. These filler polymers are made by suspension (granular, dispersion) polymerisation and by... [Pg.323]

The sign before each variable indicates how the variable influences quantity supplied. A minus sign indicates they are inversely related and a positive sign indicates they are directly related. Thus, in the example of coal, raising the price of coal is likely to increase quantity supplied, whereas raising the price of labor is likely to decrease the quantity supplied. [Pg.1107]

In formulating holloware enamels the degree of acid resistance required is less than for chemical plant, e.g. reaction vessels, and consequently the RO2 (Si02 and Ti02) is lower thus permitting increased quantities of fluxes to be incorporated which confer improved workability . Furthermore, they can be fired at lower temperatures and have superior chip resistance. Conversely, chemical plant enamels are higher in silica and dissolved titania and require harder firing. An example of such an enamel is shown in Table 16.1. [Pg.741]

In theory, increased quantities of the organic compound finely ground with constant quantities of potassium bromide should give infrared spectra of increasing intensity. However, good quantitative results by this direct procedure are difficult to obtain due to problems associated with the non-quantitative transfer of powder from the small ball-mill grinder (or pestle and mortar) into the compression die. These are only partially overcome by using a micrometer to measure the final disc thickness. [Pg.755]

To obtain a calibration curve for benzoic acid, six discs should be prepared using potassium bromide containing 0.1 per cent potassium thiocyanate as described in Section 19.8 and increasing quantities of pure benzoic acid using the following quantities ... [Pg.755]

This was experimentally verified by Hess, in the neutralisation of sulphuric acid by ammonia. The acid (H2S04) was first neutralised directly with aqueous ammonia (NH3aq.), and then acids diluted with successively increasing quantities of water were also brought to the state of neutrality. In every case... [Pg.255]

Land use changes in the tropics have resulted in a landscape characterized as a mosaic of logged forests, cleared fields, and successional forests. This results in the transformation from extremely fire resistant rainforest ecosystems to anthropogenic landscapes in which fire is a common event (16, 17), Fires occur in disturbed tropical forests because deforestation has a dramatic effect on microclimate. Deforestation results in lower relative humidities, increased wind speeds, and increased air temperatures. In addition, deforestation results in increased quantities of biomass that are susceptible to fire. This biomass may be in the form of forest slash, leaf litter, grasses, lianas or herbaceous species (16, 18). [Pg.427]

Minerals formed in the soil can weather further with increasing quantities of F12C03 and H2O, or other sources of (Pedro, 1982). The cations released into solution (in this case K ) can be moved out of the soil into groundwater, rivers,... [Pg.164]

The results of mechanical properties (presented later in this section) showed that up to 20 phr, the biofillers showed superior strength and elongation behavior than CB, cellulose being the best. After 30 phr the mechanical properties of biocomposites deteriorated because of the poor compatibility of hydrophilic biopolymers with hydrophobic natural rubber(results not shown). While increasing quantity of CB in composites leads to constant increase in the mechanical properties. Scanning electron micrographs revealed presence of polymer-filler adhesion in case of biocomposites at 20 phr. [Pg.122]

Free radicals should be present in increased quantities at the site of injury. [Pg.144]

Organic cheese is now being produced in increasing quantities to satisfy demand. Gary Jungheim of Country Cheeses, Tavistock, has seen a 10% increase in 18 months. [Pg.160]
