Home desalinators are possible only for industrialized countries with a central service organization. They will eventually become available on a rental/service contract basis, as is standard practice for water softeners in many communities. Although rental of water softeners is common in the United States, home membrane-system rental is not estabUshed. 

A postproject management audit (project audit) is performed to verify that project terms were carried out and that services contracted for were satisfactorily completed. Once these basic objectives have been achieved, it is important that all documents are properly assembled and the project file be closed and stored in a manner permitting rapid reference and retrieval. 

Internal personnel will normally undertake boiler plant operation. Maintenance work may be by either internal personnel or outside contractors. Service contracts will be available from equipment suppliers covering all items of the boiler plant. Recently, companies have started offering contract energy-management schemes. These may be designed to suit individual applications and will be tailored to customer requirements. They may take over the operation of an existing plant or, if necessary, include for a new replacement plant. They will usually operate over a 3-10-year contract period. Dependent upon the terms of contract, all fuels, electricity, repairs and replacements may be covered. 

Utilities plant contract labor Today these chemical water treatment-based full-service programs may be further enhanced by the supply of various boiler plant mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair work, plus energy management services, all from a single supplier source. In fact, many customers are now replacing their entire utilities staff with contract labor under a utilities service contract. The utilities plant contractor usually subcontracts the water treatment full-service component to a specialist water treatment and environmental services company. 

Traditionally, a common solution to the problem of matching relatively higher levels of technical support with lower chemical volumes for these smaller customers has been via a one- to three-year, fully inclusive product and services contract. Such a contract will specify the frequency of service visits to be made to the customer s site and the type of work to be carried out. It will also, perhaps, limit the maximum volumes of chemical treatments to be supplied during the contract lifetime, or perhaps designate the amount of chemicals required based on treating a certain annual volume of boiler FW. Contracts may include for the provision of chemical feed and control equipment and for the supply of labor for boiler cleaning, chemical addition, and drum removal services (drumless delivery). What if instrument manufacturers would adopt specific RMs Until now, there has been a general tendency for instrument manufacturers to avoid admitting the need for RMs. If instrument manufacturers could be convinced to make a serious appraisal of needs in the field, they might provide some resources to help meet those needs (Rasberry 1998). After all, the extra cost of providing suitable RMs, as a part of an annual service contract costing US 20 000 on an instmment that is worth US 2 million is quite insignificant. 

If the system is modest and stand-alone (perhaps based on a small minicomputer or super microcomputer), only the acquisition cost may be significant. If the system needed is a large and expensive one (such as would be based on a mainframe or super minicomputer) and if it requires specially prepared and/or air conditioned facilities, much cable installation and/or on-going service contracts, then all cost factors may require consideration. 

Customer Service and Service Contracts It is important to choose a vendor that has a good customer service track record. Contact other laboratory directors and supervisors to ascertain their experience with the vendors that service their laboratories. Also, the cost of a service contract will need to be factored into the laboratory operating budget after the acquisition of an automated staining platform.

It thus seems to be an atypical service contract The former supplier, now lessor, undertakes to make the benefit of the chemical substance available to the user (lessee), and to take over, if required, certain further services in connection with the use of this chemical substance. 

This atypical service contract is most similar to a contract for works and services, as a certain result is owed by the debtor like in a contract for works and services. A typical example for a common contract for works and services is commissioning a master builder to build a house on a plot of land. However, in Chemical Leasing the contract cannot be fulfilled by delivery and acceptance by the factory. The house will be completed sometime. However, chemicals will be permanently needed by the enterprises using them. Therefore the contract has to be de devised as a longterm obligation, and in this respect it is similar to the service contract or the tenancy. Also in case of more comprehensive services on the part of the supplier a service contract or tenancy can serve as a model. 

Otherwise it will be an atypical service contract, which is most similar to a contract for works and services, containing, however, elements of a service contract and tenancy. 

To summarise it one could say that the Chemical Leasing contract will be an atypical service contract which is most similar to a contract for works and services, but contains also elements of service contract and tenancy. In the case of high integration and foundation of a company for the purpose of chemical management the mutual obligations can be regulated on the basis of a company agreement.

Cost allocation schemes were replaced by more flexible service contracts that made costs and services rendered much more transparent. These contracts range from more traditional time- and mate-rials-based arrangements to full service agreements, where the service providers and their customers agree on certain output parameters such as uptime/plant performance rather than on input parameters such as maintenance cost. Price negotiations with the customers became the key imperative of this transition phase. 

Acquisition cost of the system itself can be significant, but it represents, in many cases, only a relatively small percent of the total system cost over time. Many factors in addition to the acquisition cost of the system need to be considered, such as the costs of software updates, hardware maintenance, service contracts, and claims processing (Lewis, Albrant, and Hagel, 2002). Table 6-2 provides a checklist of items that a pharmacy should consider when selecting software and software vendors (Felkey and Fox, 2003b). 

The CII is characterized by some very specific traits, which has to be appraised in order to plan adequate solutions to the critical security issues. Some of these traits result from the CII implementation others are requirements put forward by the CII users, which shape its development by explicitly demanding (e.g., quality of service contracts) or implicitly expecting some qualities.
