SCOPE study

We have been discussing a class of penetration problems that are accurately modeled by two-dimensional calculations. There are many three-dimensional problems, however, that can be well approximated by two-dimensional analyses, and the greatly reduced computer memory and time requirements for such calculations make them attractive alternatives for scoping studies, or for parameter sensitivity studies. Although good quantitative predictions may not be obtained with such approximations, the calculations can be expected to reveal trends and qualitative results that will carry over to the full three-dimensional problem.

The simplest approach is to simply identify the likelihood of contact between people and pollutant at significant concentrations. This is often the extent of "risk" analysis of preliminary, multi-media, problem-scoping studies of hazardous or toxic materials (2). In the most detailed approach, finely resolved spatial and temporal patterns ("micro-environments") of concentration are measured for each of many individuals representing finely resolved population groups ("cohorts") characterized by unique "activity patterns" (3, 4 ).

The results of reaction scoping studies are provided in Table 1. 

Scoping studies were performed by analyzing sample aliquots removed from a 10-ml Schlenk flask and are provided in Table 1.

Similar "open-cycle" scoping studies using waste SO2 from combustion flue gases and SO2 produced from sulfur show equivalent economic potential. The latter, of course, would have a higher sulfuric acid production cost because the sulfur feedstock would have an acquisition cost that must be included in the economics. Nevertheless, the cost of sulfuric acid, when tempered by the revenue obtained from the sale of hydrogen, can be extremely attractive. The reverse is also true.

In subsequent investigations by the author [1] when the Step 1 reaction of the current invention was continued for 120 to 150 minutes, the corresponding polymer had a M of 81,000 daltons and a of 203,000 daltons. Additional critical polymerization reaction scoping studies using vinylidene fluoride are described by the author [2]. 

Capital costs. Estimates with a 25% accuracy were made for these scoping studies. Additional engineering effort would be required to prepare an estimate with a 10% accuracy typically needed for management approval. 

There are many pilot-scale SCWO systems currently in existence at both research and commercial entities. All of the major SCWO companies listed in Table 4 have or had at least one pilot-scale system used to conduct scoping studies for interested clients and for internal research investigations. Otlicr notable pilot-scale SCWO systems are listed in Table 6. 

This was a scoping study. Conductance measurements were carried out for dilute solutions of nickel sulphate. However, the data were incorrectly analysed in terms of a 1 2 nickel sulphate complex, and the data are not available for re-analysis. 

The experimental data diseussed in the previous seetions provide reliable estimates of the equihbrium constants for the complexes ThF , n = 1 - 3 and a good estimate for ThF4(aq). There is evidence for the formation of anionic complexes at fluoride concentrations higher than 0.02 M, and a value of the equihbrium constant for ThFg is available for scoping studies. 

Infrared spectroscopy has given useful results in applications of limited scope. Studies of hydrogen bonding in dilute solutions of the acetals 33-36 in carbon tetrachloride substantiated the assignments of anomeric configuration already made by proton magnetic... 

Accurate study specifications enable the CRO to perform a reality check on the sponsor s expectations. Often, CROs add items to the study specifications (e.g. activities or materials to be provided by the sponsor or other CRO services) that the sponsor may have overlooked. In rare cases, CROs have declined to submit a proposal because they believe the sponsor s study specifications describe an unachievable study plan. The study specifications also enable the sponsor to conduct a reality check on the CRO s understanding of the study and to determine that the proposal covers the project scope. Study specifications facilitate comparison of proposals from different CROs and help ensure that the sponsor s attention is focused on the resources the CRO will provide, as well as on the proposed budget. 

Instead of acting exclusively as nucleophiles, it was found that aUylic alcohols could also act as electrophiles. This became evident when what proved to be a volatile byproduct was identified as diallyl ether 8 under a myriad of Au-catalysis conditions employing both Au(I) and Au(III) salts (Scheme 2). Although it took until 2012 before the paper finally appeared, we were able to get the hydroalkoxylation/Claisen sequence to work quite welf and others followed suit. This was an arduous endeavor that ultimately would not have been successful without what came next—scope studies and mechanistic investigation of this unexpected reactivity.

It usually goes through two stages in feasibility assessment to find an answer. The first stage is called feasibility scoping study, while the second one is feasibility study, after which the retrofit design phase follows.
