Security issues

Security issues involving access controls are typically line management responsibilities. However, it is not unheard of to have the SSHO in charge of site access or other security-related matters. However, if the field team leader or site supervisors are in charge of access issues or other security matters, they should always strive for SSHO participation. The nature of a project may warrant assigning a member of the site security staff to the project team. Key duties of the security officer may include the following  

Cyber Terrorisni, attacks on the integrity of travel documents, the use of full body scanners and issues flowing therefrom, civil unrest as they threaten the security of airports and unlawful interference with civil aviation are issues that draw the attention of the aviation community in general and the air transport industry in particular.

To address the technology, waste, safety and security issues concerning nuclear energy, the UN established the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 1957, a few years after U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower s famous Atoms for Peace speech before the United Nations General Assembly.

Environmental and security issues are multifaceted and complex, in cultural, political and scientific sense, hi a fundamental way, the environment must be viewed as a strategic factor to be weighed in with many other variables affecting a global or homeland security. 

Environmental factors and security are tightly linked. Each affects the other. Because of multiple factors, linkages, and causalities, the relationships are complex and often difficult to understand. The use of a conceptual model, such as the one suggested in this paper, can help in managing the resolution of security issues caused by environmental stress. 

Moving to the transport sector, Fig. 15.1 quantifies the continued oil stress of the transportation sector. Even when a rather aggressive development of biofuels is included, the transportation demand for oil does not go down. This underlines that in all likelihood the energy security issue is as much a long-term issue as the climate change issue. The global economy today is driven by politics and not by the global market converting energy supplies into a national security issue with energy independence becoming a top priority of every nation. 

It is not the intent of this Guideline to deal in depth with facility security issues. However, effective fire prevention in a processing facility depends on people in addition to systems to detect developing fires and other incidents and to detect unauthorized intrusion into the facility. Intruder-caused vandalism, damage, spills, releases, or fires are not common, but are a credible threat. A prisoner can be compelled to take psychiatric medication in only two circumstances. First if he suffers from a serious mental illness that renders him mentally incompetent to make his own medical decisions, prison medical authorities are permitted to forcibly treat the prisoner, so long as the treatment is in the best interests of the prisoner and complies with due process. Second, a prisoner whose mental illness leads him or her to engage in dangerous behavior that threatens to harm other prisoners or prison staff, may be forcibly treated with psychotropic medication.This ruling is based on the unique safety and security issues within prisons.
