An optimization criterion for determining the output parameters and basis functions is to minimize the output prediction error and is common to all input-output modeling methods. The activation or basis functions used in data analysis methods may be broadly divided into the following two categories ... [Pg.12]

It is interesting to mention that USEtox is mainly a tool for LCIA studies where characterization factors are obtained for a wide list of substances. However, the model also provides intermediate output parameters (e.g., intake doses, concentrations in environmental compartments, substance exposure) that can be used for risk assessment studies. This was the case in the present study comparing the values from USEtox with reference limit values. [Pg.369]

A data table of a case-base can be divided into input and output sections. Input parameters are retrieval parameters and output parameters are design specification parameters. The problem is characterized as input data to the system. In the retrieval phase a set of retrieval parameter values of all cases in the case-base are compared to the input data. The most similar cases are then selected and ranked based on the comparison. [Pg.97]

Output parameters contain the input parameters plus information on the safety characteristics of the process and information on accidents and their causes. Specific design recommendations are included in the output. On the accidents the output describes e.g. following information ... [Pg.99]

Precise description of behavior needs an abstract model of the state of any correct implementation and of input or output parameters. Catalysis uses a type model for this. Types specify behavior in terms of the effect of operations on conceptual attributes. For a simple type, these attributes and their types are listed textually more-complex types may have a type model drawn graphically and even factored into separate drawings. [Pg.59]

Working from your initial type diagram, sketch a pair of snapshots before and after each operation. Draw them on one diagram, using highlights to show newly created objects and links and X and for objects or links that do not exist in the after snapshot. Name the input and output parameters to the action occurrence consistently with the snapshots. [Pg.125]

Create parameter models. Describe (by a type model) any input and output parameter types and their attributes and operations to the extent that the client and the implementor need to understand and agree on them. [Pg.127]

Many types are used for both purposes. For example, Date is often used in specifications and also has many implementations, and a good design would often have direct implementation of the specification types. Also, in some situations the specification requires an implementation not only of a primary type but also of related types required for input and output parameters. An example is shown in Step 8 in Section 3.4.1. [Pg.149]

As a matter of style, we use containment to depict specification types that have been introduced simply to describe operations on the primary type of interest. Sometimes we also need to describe operations on the input or output parameters of these operations, as shown in Figure 3.11. [Pg.165]

A localized operation is a degenerate case of a joint action with a distinct receiver, in which nothing is known or stated about the initiator s identity or attributes. All relevant aspects of the initiator are abstracted into the input and output parameters of the operation. The following is a fully localized operation that cannot refer to the initiator at all. [Pg.187]

We have seen how an entire sequence of interactions between objects can be abstracted and described as a single joint action. We will next see how even in program code, an operation invocation itself has two sides the sender and the receiver. By using input and output parameters, a localized operation specification decouples the effect on the receiver from any information about the initiator. [Pg.188]

The primary reason for requiring transitivity is that individual types and classes almost never stand on their own. If you depend on a particular class, then you also depend on at least the type definitions of all its method input and output parameters, which could often be in its imported packages if these definitions change or if a new version is released, your work will need examination. [Pg.320]

This type of network is composed of an input layer, an output layer and one or more hidden layers (figure 1). Bias term in each layer is analogous to the constant term of any polynomial. The number of neurons in the input and the output layer depends on the respective number of input and output parameters taken into consideration. However, the hidden layer may contain zero or more neurons. All the layers are interconnected as shown in the figure and the strength of these interconnections is determined by the weights associated with them. The output from a neuron in the hidden layer is the transformation of the weighted sum of output from the input layers and is given as (1)... [Pg.251]

The three input parameters to the multi-layer perceptron are the atmospheric pressure and the mole fraction of liquid(Xl) and vapor (Yl) phases. The output parameter is the boiling temperature. [Pg.252]

In addition to the linear sensitivity coefficients described above, various other types of sensitivity coefficients have been studied to probe underlying relationships between input and output parameters of chemical kinetic models. These include higher-order coefficients, Green s function coefficients, derived coefficients, feature coefficients, and principal components. Their descriptions and applications can be found in the literature [22,23, 27, 28],... [Pg.65]

As output parameters we have also used the relative variation of the pulse duration,... [Pg.155]

Eurthermore, uncertainties in the exposure assessment should also be taken into account. However, no generally, internationally accepted principles for addressing these uncertainties have been developed. For predicted exposure estimates, an uncertainty analysis involving the determination of the uncertainty in the model output value, based on the collective uncertainty of the model input parameters, can be performed. The usual approach for assessing this uncertainty is the Monte Carlo simulation. This method starts with an analysis of the probability distribution of each of the variables in the uncertainty analysis. In the simulation, one random value from each distribution curve is drawn to produce an output value. This process is repeated many times to produce a complete distribution curve for the output parameter. [Pg.349]

The existence of surface states in general can lead to a variety of nonidealities in the output parameters associated with semiconductor-electrolyte junctions. Figure 28.6 provides the current-potential response for a photo-electrochemical cell containing a cadmium ferrocyanide-modified n-CdS electrode in an aqueous ferri/ferrocyanide electrolyte. Although open-circuit and... [Pg.872]

A valuable approach toward the determination of solution structures is to combine molecular mechanics calculations with solution experimental data that can be related to the output parameters of force field calculations 26. Examples of the combination of molecular mechanics calculations with spectroscopy will be discussed in Chapter 9. Here, we present two examples showing how experimentally determined isomer distributions may be used in combination with molecular mechanics calculations to determine structures of transition metal complexes in solution. The basis of this approach is that the quality of isomer ratios, computed as outlined above, is dependent on the force field and is thus linked to the quality of the computed structures. That is, it is assumed that both coordinates on a computed potential energy surface, the... [Pg.74]

Note that all the output parameters mentioned are directly related to system connectivity. The meaning of the word chemistry is in fact reduced to connectivity build-up since each chemical reaction between two functional groups leads to the formation of a link. [Pg.137]

Table III, all three versions of NUSOLVE gave similar output parameters (S=7.2 to 7.7) and realistic profiles, Figure 6. Although there is some saving in cpu time with E04CEA over POWELL 64 when ill-chosen parameters were input, the output parameters were identical. The cpu times required with well-chosen input parameters were almost identical for the three programs. The first step is to determine whether a classical additive model, an outranking approach or DEA should be used. The criteria to be used for the site selection/site ranking task do not lend themselves to a clear classification into input and output parameters. Furthermore, the relatively complex mathematical procedure underlying DEA was perceived to be inappropriate for support of top management decisions that are to a large extent driven by qualitative factors. Hence, DEA was ruled out first. [Pg.152]

Cost allocation schemes were replaced by more flexible service contracts that made costs and services rendered much more transparent. These contracts range from more traditional time- and mate-rials-based arrangements to full service agreements, where the service providers and their customers agree on certain output parameters such as uptime/plant performance rather than on input parameters such as maintenance cost. Price negotiations with the customers became the key imperative of this transition phase. [Pg.260]
